I am so building one of these this weekend.

All you separate seat ppl are raining on my parade!

I see your point tho. I will see What I can do to alter the plans.

I priced out the lumber. Green treated is worth $106 fefore tax. That's with the seats, for all you seats nay sayers!

the last range I was at had built the benches that were posted at the top. it was annoying having the seats attached to the table. No one could really get a comfortable position. Most of the time we just put two end to end and shot from the prone position on top of the tables.

I've shot from this bench and its stable because of the weight, also your supposed to bury the legs in the ground according to the plans, should make it even more stable.

I don't fully understand keeping the seats seperate? Our range tables are nearly identical and are a very stable surface to shoot off and I can only imagine with a moveable seat that being less so?

So here is the finished product. It is heavy and very sturdy. I built the seats on it. If I find them to unstable I can always take them off.

My dad has a nice big shop that help let me use. He is a carpenter, but is off on disability for a while so he oversaw everything to make sure I did it right. He gave me lots of good tips and had lots of good tools.

Finshed? Get the router out and round over (or bevel) all those edges!

You gonna bury that or will it be moved? And is there any wobble as it sits?

Router? I don't see the point but maybe later.

It will be buried 9 inches as per the instructions. It doesn't seem to wobble, but I can't tell without putting a rifle on it. It will be solid when its buried.

I built one last spring for my 300yrd range here on the farm, Buried it as per instructions and it is very stable, I routered the edges of mine because of the splinters, used 2x6 spruce and then treated it before I assembled, weighs about 200-250lbs. I also built some nice three leg portables for the gopher patch, I will post pictures if my kids will help me.

Try and shoot

a bench gun with a 36X scope and see the movement in those benches.:(

That is why I built the concrete benches for the range.:dancingbanana: They work WELL but are not perfect either. If I had my way out there all the benches would be concrete.;)
