I beat them with an SKS!

Congradulation! I to am a Norc sks owner as well.

I always believed that they were getting a bad rap and that it is more about the shooter behind the rifle rather than the rifle itself.

I recently put a receiver scope mount and scope on mine. Not the mounting system, but it works decently. I can hit the steel plates at the gun club I go to very regularly at 100 metres. Not sure about open sights. The front sight of sks has been frozen since I bought it 15 yrs ago. I've tried to free it up a few times over the years with no success yet. That's why I scoped it. One day I may take it to a gun smith and have them free up the front sight.

They are a decently accurate rifle for the price and a lot of fun to shoot!

Soooo, Hungry and TimK told me to come here and brag because I won the Quebec CQB competition with a Norinco SKS and Norinco 1911 pistol last week-end, and they told me I should tell you Red Rifle owners that it's possible!

Yep, most of the rifles on the firing line were AR-15s and Robarms M96s and Swiss Arms CQBs and CZ858s. We even had a Plainfield M-1 Carbine and a few other SKSs.

But the winner had a Chinese SKS...:dancingbanana:

I hope they'll do better the next time!:nest:

You Effing Rock!

Very few people are practised, offhand shooters these days. Very few are practised with iron sights either. Another thing, most don't realise how bad their eyes are getting as they age.

Good for you. It just goes to show what practise and lots of it makes you capable of.

Cheap SKS rifles and ammunition were a god send for this. It's really to bad so many people turn up their noses at the benefits that can be gained from such reasonably priced combinations.

In Lumby, we had a 303 shoot. A fellow showed up with a youngster and a new Yugo SKS. He persuaded us to let the boy, about 10, compete. Well, it was a disaster for the rest of us. That young fellow shot circles around us. We had a two bird limit on the turkeys and when we told the father that, he got POed and took his boys birds and left. The boy was welcome to compete but the father wasn't going to waste ammunition for nothing.
To bad, the boy was a natural and was having a lot of fun. Good for you and your win.

Really... I'm very impressed... i know first hand how tough it is to compete with an SKS in a CQB match... but one thing has me puzzled...

where's the pics? Is there a "no pictures of guns allowed" law in Quebec?

maybe it falls under the "No pictures of anybody having fun with guns" regulations..

were there maybe some people there wearing "unauthorized camouflage" and they don't want their pictures posted?

i'm just sayin!
