I call it art. SKS builds +I am Bubba, fear me.+

I mean, good effort and all but what was the purpose of cutting away the dust cover on the bottom one?

Gotta go fast! Grams count! (Only slightly sarcastic) and it looks different.
Wait until I acid bath it, strip out the factory seats and spare tire to shave off more weight! :p

well, despite my earlier remarks , I find I have been inspired by this thread and the building Sacha thread by Murray 3-D, so I am embarking on an SKS project. It's been over 20 years since my last SKS bubba project and this one will be inspired by the futuristic XM8 rifle.
I picked up some modelling clay and some other essentials for shaping the prototype I will cast off my molds in. This is happening.... I'll post up when she's done.
Mechanically I just gotta relocate the trigger itself, not the housing...... gotta figure out if I can move the safety....... and I need to mock up some kind of faux suppressor and figure out how I am going to rework the sights, shorten the barrel and thread it ..... relocate the charging handle...... and make the composite chassis from scratch...

piece of cake

these pics will be my inspiration

An interesting choice. You might be able to buy an Airsoft XM8 rifle and use its externals for ur project. Theres a guy online who managed to cram the guts of Marlin .22lr into an Airsoft Dragunov. And it looks pretty robust.

Did some one say bubba? I put this one together few months ago :) you guys might like it.

DAMN! That’s a beauty! Yours and Murray 3-D are my favourites. Couple of gorgeous rifles. There was also one here a few years ago that member built with an 858 folding stock that I’m still in love with as well.

I don't want to just chop mod an airsoft kit. I thought about that.
This will be from scratch and composites are what i do so while it won;t be easy, it will be fun and unique like your sacha I hope hehehe

that was posted a month or so ago and is not even a functioning firearm. It would appear to be someone's crafty attempt at a halloween prop

welcome to the dark side. lol.

haha ya you got me
I've spent the last 2 days figuring out how I am going to re-engineer the SKS trigger group. Almost got it figured out on paper but to progress on the SKS/XM8 hybrid from what I see it will all start with the trigger group or it won't look right at all.
So the following will be done to an SKS-D trigger group as permanent modification
-remove trigger guard
- tig weld on tabs for installing new trigger 2.5" further forward on the trigger group.
-shorten factory trigger and drill a hole crosswise for mounting a linkage bar and pin that will connect to the new trigger.
-tig weld tabs for relocating safety and converting to an AR15 ambi safety. (detent will figure out later. Factory safety will remain but will have the lever cut off and the factory safety left in the fire position as it is being deleted.
-extend magazine lever
--remove spring lock post from rear receiver leg
-fabricate new grip and trigger housing from composite material around the modified SKS trigger pack.

So that's step one....... LOL
dark side indeed
need to decide if I will use a vertical bolt for the rear of the trigger to replace the spring lock or if I will devise a horizontal rear take down pin and detent for the rear of the trigger assembly.....

I'd love to be customizing M14's and Stag10's but in these uncertain times ..... the sks will have to do

its all good, bro.

this gotta be the boldest mod i have ever read, im exhausted just read your creativities on paper and you havent even started with the leg work. yes, there will be some misstep that warrant unexpected twist and turns but thats part of the challenge we face in bubbaing. good luck.

btw, take lots of pic or vids.
