So I walked into a local gun store the day after getting paid (and my first day out of camp) and decided I wanted something "fun". Didn't want an SKS and their "tactical" shotguns were lacking. The only things left besides bolt action rifles was a Swiss Arms or an CZ-858-2.

Came home with the 858 and a crate of ammo.

I said I'd never buy one but damn it was fun to shoot. The 5 rounds only in a mag is sad though :(

I had one problem with the thel ast round of a mag not being picked up. But that was minor and after quickly going through three mags before that as fast as I could :D

Heh... Heh... Heh... (Say it slowly... SEVERAL times...)

And... Welcome to the 858 club!

Heh... Heh... Heh...

Cheers
Jay

May I ask how much for these 858?
I am thinking about picking up a plinker for something else to shoot besides my hunting rifle and I just came across this other thread were you can get an SKS for $75 with ammo. Do these things go around the same price? Just debating it cause these look way cooler!

An 858 is $650-700 + tax brand new

I was looking for a plinker. The only thing that stopped me about the 858 was the price. I'm a tight ass when it comes to spending money and I was trying to weigh the costs of the 858 compared to what I could get for an SKS firing the same round. Now I've used an SKS more than a few times before and although somewhat fun there just wasn't anything that really drew me to them besides cost of the rifle itself.

I had considered an SKS-D with the detachable mags but they weren't the easiest to find.

I figured what the hell and picked up the 858. I'm glad I did. Yes the cost is steeper than an SKS but the looks of it is WAY beyond an SKS. So many Fudds thought it was an AK-47 that I was too busy laughing to shoot for the longest time explaining that it was. Finally I got tired and just said that it was an "AK".

It's the closest many of us can come without spending thousands of dollars on some of the closer types like the Valmet.

My dad fired 5 rounds and instantly wanted one! It's an all around fun gun that looks cool enough to piss off the antis and the fudds.

I paid $699 and it comes with the "bayonet" and 4 mags which was nice. Then $300 for 1400 rounds of FMJ and I was laughing all the way to the gravel pit!

Good deal, I'm sure you enjoy the lighter weight, better balance, superior trigger, mags and ergonomics over the SKS. Not to mention breaking it down, cleaning, lubing and reassembling is alot quicker and simpler than an SKS. To anyone still on the fence with the cost argument: The extra $500 gets you return on investment! If it didnt, no one would buy one and they would have fallen off the market years ago. An SKS cannot even be built to compete with a VZ.

Yeah I'm not a big semi auto rifle person. But when I went to take down the 858 for cleaning it was SIMPLE! It was nice and light too if you get the folding stock version! And for anyone worried like me that the folding stock might suck due to recoil I will tell you that the recoil on the 858 is almost nill!

SKS = 7.62% chance to hit the barn at 100 yards :p

The ONLY two concerns so far was the last round of a mag not being picked up but that could have been due to lots of firing and little cleaning and the folding stock. Now I love the folding stock, really, but mine is annoying to try and fold. That button sometimes is rock solid and hard to press to fold the stock up.

I got one at the start of the year from Murdoc @ Arma-Coat. Tacked on an extra 250$ish but it was worth it. Definatly on my never sell list. Glad you like yours doc.

I'm glad I'm not the only one then, sometimes it's super easy but then when I expect it to be simple the f*cker damn near requires a hammer. Oh well, still an awesome gun!

WoW!
Thanx guyz for the respone.
Now I just as torn as drache must have been. I think I will have to seriously look at this rifle.
