I fixed my Mini-14 with a torch and mig welder

so - tie it to a tree or your lead sled with the long string for the first mag -- if it works, you are good to go. paint it up (I do like the magic marker trick tho) and forget about it. And when them damn coyotes come out, your rifle will be ready and not in some padded case somewhere

If it had been tig welded, buffed and on an custom every one would be excited. Perception is a funny thing. I say hooray to sh#t hacking! It'll work forever.

There's quite a line between pounded on with a hammer then tack welded and a buffed peice properly installed on a custom rifle. I could be crazy but Im thinking Ruger has more firearms engineering skills than most and maybe they didnt weld it on there for a reason.

Hey, if it works it works and more power to him. But posting pictures of it on here and expecting not to take flack is foolish.

Kind of brings a tear to my eye, seeing that type of gunsmithing skill again.

BUBBA has been resurrected.

It may work though. It's still FUGLY and shows a lack of respect as well as concern for a decent rifle. Not to mention how much value was blatantly thrown away because of being to lazy or unskilled to clean it up properly.

Holy #### guys....his gun, his project, his fix. Whatever, let it rest...it's not a safe queen,it's an everyday shooter...he can do whatever the hell he wants with it

Everyone else took a shot ssssooooo. What good is a flash hider in Canada? What did he do with the loose Glock pins? This has the makings of a cross between a wonderful soap opera and a rerun of Orange County Choppers. I’m on the edge of my seat. Rod

Did you think you would stir up several pages of sh!t when you posted a back yard welded sight? Bet you did!
Who here is not guilty of glueing on a sight, or cutting a stock for a butt-pad? Come on...? Besides nul and voiding the warranty...

Leave him alone - its just a gun - let him do it the way he wants, its fun to bubba guns. Talk to the Tradeex guys -- they will tell you that the Swedes have got to be the biggest bubbas in the world from what they try and do to some of those rifles that come in from Sweden - welded on scope rings, home made scope bases and rings, cheek pads made of plaster or wood filler, stocks cut off with what looks like a chisel.....

I have a left handed friend who took a Turkish Mauser and bent and welded the bolt handle up and over to the left side of the receiver. It looked unbelievable. He figured with all the cheap 8mm ammo back then, it would be a good farm truck coyote rifle - and he still used it up to a little while ago.

Its just a gun - its not a Rigby or an irreplacable collectible piece - just a chunk of steel and wood

I think we should have a new sections on CGN called "Blacksmithing by BUBBA". No offence to any blacksmiths on this board.

Hey, I like it too. Like the sensible ones have said, it's his gun.
Sure we'd all love to have beautiful museum-grade pieces to shoot with; but when the sling buckle broke during my last hunting trip and my gun hit the road before I could get my motorcycle stopped, I'm glad that it was finished in Tremclad black and had grip-tape instead of checkering.
If it had been a full custom gun, beautifully polished, with 30 LPI fleur-de-lis checkering, I'd probably still be getting misty-eyed about it.
And the moose I whacked wasn't at all concerned with how it looked.

What... that's not so bad, :) flash hider was moving around, so he welded a pin in place. Good job.

Clean it up a bit, cold blue and it'll be good as new. :D
