Hey, I like it too. Like the sensible ones have said, it's his gun.
Sure we'd all love to have beautiful museum-grade pieces to shoot with; but when the sling buckle broke during my last hunting trip and my gun hit the road before I could get my motorcycle stopped, I'm glad that it was finished in Tremclad black and had grip-tape instead of checkering.
If it had been a full custom gun, beautifully polished, with 30 LPI fleur-de-lis checkering, I'd probably still be getting misty-eyed about it.
And the moose I whacked wasn't at all concerned with how it looked.
