I was down at one of my spots yesterday for one last crack at geese for the season and apparently someone either saw me unloading my truck or sitting along the waterway. I doubt it was an early morning dog walker or jogger. It was sleeting and snowing.

I was hunting in a legal to hunt zone at the water's edge when I noticed two men in dark clothing wave at me from the edge of the bush near the access trail.

Oh.......COs, I thought, what do they want? Turned out to be two RCMP officers. They apologized for disturbing me and said they realized I was in an open hunting area, but said they had a "Man with a gun" report and had to respond.

The looked at my PAL and hunting permits then we had a pleasant chat and they seemed impressed that I'd lugged 12 goose decoys down to the water's edge all the way from the access road. The snow was dotted with coyote tracks so they asked if I had a dog with me. Pretty pleasant encounter actually. My buddy had a similar experience a couple years ago there.

Oh God!!!! Not a man with a gun!!! Hasn’t our government made those illegal for people to own yet. We’re definitely going to have to give them another majority government so they can remedy this obvious oversight.

Glad everything turned out good, but stories like this always made me stop for a minute, and be thankful that I live where I do. Where I am they’re probably more likely to call in for strange behaviour if you don’t have a gun.

Saw a man walking though town last week with single shot shotgun over his shoulder.
Kinda reminded me the old Elmer cartoons.. ha ha

Anyway, nobody got nervous

Some idiot called the RCMP about a man with a gun .He was head to toe in 10 mile orange clothing on his way going deer hunting leaving his driveway in his truck.

Nice to see they are doing their job - congrats to the RCMP

Nevermind the cops, how was the hunt?

Tons of geese, but flying really high either up and down the river or crossing over, but all a long way from me. I had assumed that with snow on the fields and ice on the flooded areas that they would be along the river more. I also hoped that with overcast skies and snow and sleet that they'd be flying low. No such luck

I have had similar "incidents" thanks to a loonie leftarded neighbor, never a problem chatting with the constables involved. Finally, the loonie crossed a line and was charged with mischief, have not had any issues with him since.

I got reported to the regional police for walking in to a gun shop with an encased gun... the woman had a panic attack seeing the rifle case and didn't know there was a gun shop downstairs, even though it has been there for 30 years... friggin' yuppies.

Yes, migratory birds are a federal issue that’s why it was RCMP.
CO’s do provincials...

I've been checked plenty by provincial conservation officers while migratory game bird hunting in BC. By federal COs too.

Yesterday was the first time since I started waterfowling nearly 20 years ago now that I have ever been checked by the RCMP.

Good to hear the encounter with the cops was a good one OP.

I’m so glad I live in a little rural town now and I don’t have to try and be low profile when coming or going from the property with a gun or while hunting, the most I have heard come out of a neighbors mouth is “Any luck?” I was driving down the paved road on my quad with a deer strapped to the rear rack and everyone waved or gave me the thumbs up, with the exception of one older couple they just started in amazement lol.

It is sad that in today's world that we must take steps that are not legally required in order to protect our pastime from the uneducated and paranoid people so that we and the authorities are not inconvenienced by calls and complaints about "someone with a gun".

It should be the responsibility of the authorities to better educate the public on the firearms regulations in a proactive effort to save these nuisance calls that waste their time and resources.

I'm with you there.
I get stopped by the RCMP here all the time on the way to/from our range (only one road) wondering what my newest purchase is and how it went. I have even had them follow me to the range to shoot guns because their stuff is boring :d
