Well boys I figured it was time for some serious retirement planning awhile back and figured that I better get my affairs in the gun safe in order. Ya never know when a falling anvil has your name on it, or that angry husband is going to catch up with you. God may be merciful but Darwin is utterly ruthless.

I figured I was going to go into my geezerdom with the finest armaments available known to man: I stomped into the store at Prophet River and demanded a loaded M1A and by Godfrey, Tanner and the boys set me up with the best damned rifle EVER seen ANYWHERE in the world! (Ya load it by the book, and without a word of a lie, it shoots velocities and groups by the book too! I'm not kidding - it will go 1.5 MOA all day long with 168 BTHP's and they almost ALL go over the chrony at the regulation 2650 FPS! When you clear the rifle and set it on the bench it salutes and assumes Parade Rest!) There are more accurate rifles than mine, but I am pressed to think of one that is more fun!

I was so impressed with that green bean Marine that I figured I better get a pistol to match - so I marched into Prophet River and hassled the boys again...and ordered a Springield Armoury Trophy Match pistol. If I recall it was something around $1700.00 and change, and the boys at Prophet darn near had to pull teeth to get one in for me.

I'm sorry fellas...but I gotta say I feel let down. Not with the fellas at Prophet - they are a class act all the way...but this pistol is a dog, and I think the fellas at Springfield may need a kick in the arse. If some of you have this gun and it shoots like a champ - no offense meant! But goddammitalltohell...I think I got one that rolled off the line and was put together by a hungover retard on a Monday morning! The first time I disassembled it just about killed me. First I developed a virulent case of Tourette's Syndrome as I cursed and spat trying to get this POS back together. I even watched a YouTube on it!!! "Ferchrissakes," I sobbed, "It's a %$#@*& 1911!!!! How hard can it be to put one together...?!?!?" Once I finally DID get this POS back together (my gun licenses were temporarily suspended until the frightened cops established that I was still sane) - the thing shot exactly the same as my HK USP .45 does. I almost chimped out in rage at the range too! In the pictures there is beautifully engraved trophy cup on the slide...on my gun it is a poorly done chemical or laser etching! I have a suggestion for SA - if you are gonna polish a turd - don't polish it with turd!!!! And good gravy - it comes in a cheezy plastic briefcase with those crappy plastic holsters that can even Glocks don't look good in! The trigger pull is like a wet fart with lumps in it - you will NOT see this thing in the winner's circle if they're all like that, I assure you! And hells bells - the gun is so bloody tight that nothing works! Racking the slide can sprain your wrist if you aren't careful! About the only GOOD things I noticed about this gun was that the adjustable sights are pretty good (but those on my USP are just as good) - and the fine cut checkering literally welds the gun to your hand which I just love. Shooting it gives my hands an invigorating massage that keeps my skin young and healthy looking like that dish soap in the commercials!:)

I'm sorry. I am giving this pistol a 5.5 out of 10. It is sold as a premium gun and to me...pbfbfbbffffft. Unless it wears in or something...it is no better than any of the 1911's costing much less.

What's with that BBB? I mean sheesh - they OWN Camp Perry! How in bloody blue blazes can you make the best service rifles in the world and then poop the bed on pistols? Cripes, I shoulda taken my lumps with Les Baer ...I see you're a dealer...can you bring them in? I want an honest match pistol and that's it. I don't need to impress the cool kids with exotic finishes or gimmicky grips...but nor do I want a GI clunker or a Norc beater. Do you have anything that would fit the bill?

I've got a 1911 RO. A full detailed strip down was just like the other 1911 I own. The only two gripes about the RO is no front strap checkering and it could sure use a dehorning. If it is THAT difficult to cycle the slide, I think you're going to have extraction/cycling issues. Have you shot it yet?

I have Trinomon - only about 100 rounds down the pipe. Function was flawless but my reloads are as good as anybody's and better than most. I take my pistols seriously so I am kinda picky on what I feed them...cripes, if I develop cycling problem then the guys at SA WILL get an earful...!

The sucky thing I heard about Springfield is that they won't honour warranties outside the US. Someone on CGN bought a brand new M1A that worked out to be like a "seconds" and had problems. Springfield told him to pound sand..

Sorry to hear about your bad experience, One Lung. It sucks when you spend that much on a gun and are still disappointed. That said, I strongly urge you to check out the 1911s that Dan Wesson is putting out. They very nicely bridge the gap between production guns and hit end semi customs like Ed Brown, wilson Combat and Led Baer. There are very, very few dissapointed Dan Wesson owners out there.

too bad. nothing worse than being disappointed with a big purchase. have to say i am surprised, but then again i have zero experience with springfield.

Dan Wesson certainly has a great reputation. the higher end DWs are not much cheaper than a base PII from Les Baer though.

Baers are not stratospheric in price like the Wilsons, Nighthawks and Ed Browns.

It's my own darn fault, Dawg. I am an old fart that should know better but there is a lesson to be learned here, and I believe it is this:

NEVER....EVER....ever, ever - buy a pistol without laying hands on it first. I figured that because my Springer M1A was such a champ the pistol would be too! So for next time, when I go in to get my gun the first thing out of my face to the gun clerk will be 'What have you got for premium 1911's?' If he has Dan Wessons and can handle warranty issues - I will buy the Dan Wesson. If he has personal experience with another brand and can offer the features I want - I will go that way. I want a high end production gun - and I think I will darned well get one.

This isn't over boys!!!

the issues is that the 1911 is not worth the 1700$ price tag its about $900 to much
if it was a para or a ruger at sub $1000, people would be saying things like.
"its a 1911" got to tweek them to make them gooder...
But at 1700$ your about $1000 lower then , what a perfect out of the box 1911 is going to cost you.

I got a Trophy Match from Tanner too. I am very happy with it and it shoots like a champ. The TRP may have been more to your liking.

The plastic case is fine and the holster and mag pouch are low end. What did you expect, a top of the line $300 double alpha holster. Anyone buying this gun would want to upgrade the holster, mags and mag pouch right off the bat. Field strip is easy once you do it a few times.

My only criticism is the mags are only 7 rds and Trophy Match has some sharp edges that need to be dehorned. An order from the custom shop would have solved those problems.
