I Gotta Get me a Gas Station like THIS.... Black Rifle Fun!!

Should at least wear it in training all the time. No point in hurting yourself for some dumbass ex or pwt.

Worst case downrange is you are ringing so bad you're N/S for a couple days after a TIC with you're equilibrium all bent out of shape.

Maybe recce21 is used to having crew headsets on? That could explain a bit. 5.56 isn't that bad with those on.

Probably isnt, however chastising others for their use of hearing protection is downright ignorant.

I'm not.

No'r am I griping on people who don't though. I tell guys that they have to wear it for training, and keep it handy on actual ops if I'm in charge of people at the time, but if they aren't my dudes, they aren't my ears either.

oh, gofaster I just realized how what I wrote actually reads, I wasn't referring to your comments. I was referring to the guy earlier on in the thread that was chastising those who use ear pro.

RCR and PPCLI MCpl's and Sgt's.

Big Boomers are when it starts to hurt so .308 and such.

Hearing is EXCELLENT actually. I just had it tested by a Hearing Specialist on behalf of VAC as well as by Base Meds who both said I was good to go. I DO have tinnitus from a C9 being parked about a foot from my head when a rather exuberant MCpl came up to provide extra fire support.
WOW!

You really learnt this is the military.....really? How many rounds can you fire of 5.56 without hearing protection and carry on a conversation or hear anything at all? Dude, whomever taught you this should be kicked in the throat. Seriously.

Only wear hearing protecting for the bigger boomers? What are big boomers too you? Ho hum.

How's your hearing? Really? Everyone loves a deaf security guard with wonderful war stories.

WHAT?

WHAT?

WHAT?

Meh. I still think it is unnecessary and overly safety sally to wear hearing protection for 5.56.
5.56 can get loud when you are right beside the muzzle break but shouldn't phase you when you are behind the rifle.
Ear Pro for .22? That is dumb and I stand by that.

5.56 was an outside of the vehicle sort of thing so no headsets.

Dunno man, neglecting ear protection when shooting just seems kind of illogical, whether its a lower caliber or not.

All good dude.
I've gone without for a few parties as well.

I just don't want my tinnitus to get any worse. Like you, for .22 I don't bother. Anything that is going to get damaged from some plinkin is already gone from those 4 belts of c6 with no right side ear pro ;).

The happy medium I found was having plugs in the zippers of my chest rig. There if someone wants to make a statement but out of the way for patrolling and the initial comms and grits.

Interestingly, there is a CFTO that details the noise exposure numbers for all weapons in CF inventory. It goes pretty in depth, detailing the recommended limit of rounds fired for no hearing protection, ear plugs, ear muffs, or both, and from multiple positions.
