I hate re-assembling my 1911!!!!!!!

Before I even looked at any information on my two Sig 1911 s I had them down to every component that I could clean oiled greased and put back together with a little trouble with the slide lol

I was getting frustrated with it so I diassembled, cleaned and re-assembled my G17 in 4 minutes.

The 1911 is going back in the safe in pieces.

Boo hoo a little link pin makes you hate a gun, so their for it's ####? That's pretty slow. 40 second I can field strip a 1911 down, minus the barrel, and re assemble it. So add a 20 seconds for the removal of the barrel, and installing the barrel. So 3 mins is alot of time to wipe down a frame, do a pull thru, and wipe the slide, then oil.

I mean Heck mines a Marine Corps Operator 1911. If a window licking, crayon munching Marine can't figure it out, guess there no hope for humanity lol.

Disassembling a 1911 is like opening your email. If you do it regularly, you can do it without thought; if you do it only infrequently, however, it's another story.

The solution, for both, is to do it regularly.

I was in same boat when I got my first 1911 many years ago. The more and more you do it. The easier it is.

I find that a new 1911 or one with very little round count, is stiff. After shooting a good few hundred rounds thru it. Its a breeze.

Stick to it. Keep shooting it and breaking it down to do quick wipe down and relube. You'll see. It will become familiar and easy too do.

You think that’s bad, try putting the locking block back in a Canik TP9SA after a trigger job. You have to hold the trigger, and slide lock at the perfect angle while punching a pin back in place

That's for a detail disassembly, Not field strip. If we talking about detail, then every gun will be tricky to put back together.

I can field strip and clean a 1911 in 5 mins, slide stops are easy. I tilt mine on it's side.

If you think a 1911 is hard. Try a Ruger MK 3 series. Even worst with a mag disconector still functional.

I helped my dad with his Ruger and I have to agree with you. It was a nightmare. Sorted on later MK series.

Here is a mod for the slide lock that's handy.
Once you have the little groove filed in just get everything lined up and push straight in no tools required.
No more danger of the dreaded idiot scratch.

An Army buddy and me were in the home of the late Tom Bongalis in North Vancouver who sold guns from his house. He showed us a surplus 1911 and we turned our noses up at it, saying we were Browning/Inglis Hi-Power fans. He showed us how to strip/reassemble it and challenged us. We each did it in less than two minutes. He said - "Not bad.".

He called his eleven year old daughter Gail to leave whatever she was doing and asked her to strip and reassemble the 1911 as per cleaning. He gave us a stop watch to time her. She did it in a fraction of that time (less than 15 secs, IIRC) , put the gun down and went back to playing.

Yes dealing with the bushing and the slide stop can be a PITA, particularly with a tight fitting gun like a Les Baer. To avoid the idiot scratch, best trick I found is to flip the gun over and use a small plastic scribe to depress the ball detent. The stop pops right in without the force and jiggling that inevitably results in the scratch. Hard to beat the Sig P22X for ease of take down.

This/\ And install the slide stop before installing the recoil spring.

Sometimes, with the pistol on its side, I just align the slide stop right above where it is supposed to sit, and wiggle it in. But that plastic scribe or jewelers screwdriver (use with care) trick is the surest way to painlessly slide the stop in place.
