I have received my new Savage hog hunter more than one year and a half later.

After 10 months of waiting I have cancelled the first order (not the fault of the store but Savage), so I ordered another one and I finally received my Savage hog hunter in .308 more than one year and a half later after the first order!!! Very nice little carbine. $450 + taxes not too bad I think. But I need a better stock, any suggestions? Bell & Carlson? Here's a pic of it :)

Great little gun , I want one now! Where did you get this one ? thanks

Dante Sports, one of the best gun shop for me, awesome service!!! But if you want one the price will be a little higher because I got the original price from my first order.

Just glad to see iron sights creeping back in on a few models; Winchester Alaskan, Savage Hog Hunter, Ruger Scout, and more I bet I'm missing. I just hunted pigs in Hawaii and received a "Thank goodness" on arrival when I mentioned I hunt with iron sights before uncasing my rifle. They said it had been a long time since a set of irons had shown up and it wasn't helping the hunters; close, fast shooting.

I also wondered why you would order a rifle with a stock you didn't like. They make rifles with wood stocks also and it would be cheaper then buying the wrong stock in the first place.

What's wrong with the stock, but an even better question is why in hell would you wait 18 months to get a .308 in a synthetic stock!?

Probably because almost no modern rifles come with irons least of all in a compact rifle. If they were more commonly available I'd probably already own one solely for the irons.

I received mine is 223 a few weeks back after a long wait as well and I'm really impressed with it so far. The iron sights are really nice and it was no issue to get them zeroed at 200 yards to bang gongs. I'm currently running a red dot in quick detach rings and am looking at a fixed power scope for coyotes for it. It is really accurate and I'm looking forward to building up hand loads for it. The stock doesn't feel as bad as alot of people say, try it out first for a while. I have read that there is also a bottom metal kit in the works for these guns which would be great.

I notice on the photo that the sights are quite high. Do they line up well when you are in a natural shooting position?

I have mine in a McCrees Precision stock. The high iron sights are to clear a suppressor (note the threaded barrel). Probably not going to get used much up in Canada.

The plastic stock is pretty crappy - just a bottom of the line savage stock.

Any pictures? What did you do for bottom metal? Blind mag or detachable magazine?

No pics at the moment. The McCrees Chassis uses AI Mags.

Here's a stock picture:

Nice rifle, great to see the iron sights.
Shame about the long wait though.

If they where more available I'd consider one.

I agree it is nice to see, I just wish more of the manufactures would chamber them in smaller calibers like 308. I do not have much use for anything bigger then that. I wish Ruger would make a 308 with iron sights and a 18" barrel!
