This is directed at some of the gunsmiths and others that really know there stuff here on CGN. As some may know I have being having on going extraction issues with a Savage Model 10 FCP .308 ever since I purchased the firearm. It has been out to the warranty shop (3) three times. Here is what has been done to it the first (2) two times. Problem after 4 or 5 shots would not extract until action had cooled off to about normal unfired temperature. or beat on bolt which sometimes worked sometimes not. all in all it seemed to be a heat issue. Now I cannot say if too tight a chamber or what but the warranty shop says reset headspace good to go. Time frame about a year plus or minus. (I didn't really keep track of the time frame to close). received rifle back and installed scope and of to range. So I was able to fire a number of shots and extraction was normal then on about 4th shot hard extraction 5th shot hard extraction. this went on for a box of 20 factory shells would sometimes extract and sometimes wouldn't, I tried different brand of shells same thing. Contacted Savage US and I was given a number for a nice lady at Savage Canada. She arranged to have Rifle shipped back to warranty shop. Shop returned Rifle I again installed scope and off to range. By the way note in the case said polished chamber. (keep this in mind) So with hi hopes I loaded 5 rounds in magazine and aimed and fired. checked target and it was dead on height wise and 1 inch to left great. Now worked the bolt, no extraction. let it cool a bit and tried again no way, beat on bolt finally out comes the case. There I am thinking this cannot be true. Tried about 6 more shells same thing. Packed everything up and went home. I then sent an facebook massage to the warranty shop as I have had no luck with email on first occasion with the shop. Sure enough got a private massage to send email to owner which I did. next day got a email to call the owner. Which I did he wanted to know what I had done different then what the shop had done, installed scope and my 20moa base (Near Base very good base) Oh right away that's my problem had me look in chamber for screw protruding in to chamber it was not and also wasn't into chamber as it screwed into where barrel threads. were and screw was not long enough to hit them. I had already checked all this before going to range. So I was told to pack it up and return the rifle again (with my base this time) Which I did. I just got a email saying chamber is rusty no warranty and they want $80.00 plus shipping. Now I have been a heavy duty mechanic/Tech. for about 45 years I have worked on engines, hydraulics, air systems, electrical systems, the whole range. anything on a tractor, loader, grader, Haul trucks, highway trucks, shovels, drills anything in a mine. I have overhauled the engines , rebuilt turbos. blowers, pumps you name it I have probably worked on it. But they are telling me chamber is rusty is causing this issue, not very likely unless it was bad enough to be pitted all to hell. which it wasn't. I have cleaned the chamber with a .308 chamber brush a lot of times with bore cleaner, brakekleen oiled it and wiped it down and never seen any sign of rust. If there is any and I am not saying there isn't it would just be minor surface rust. which would be perfectly normal and chambers are not something we are suppose to oil much and are to be wiped before firing. So after all this I guess I would like some gunsmiths thoughts and ideas. I am at my wits end here. To me it sounds like a chamber issue and barrel should be replaced. or as some have said on here set back and re chambered. All this has taken about 3 years and I am right back where I started. Bottom line I guess $1200.00 3 years and a rifle I cannot shoot.
