I know primers are hard to find right now, but are people really this desperate?

I will trade but I will not sell anymore reloading components regardless of the potential profits. I thought I was helping a guy out a few months ago who claimed to not have the finances to continue shooting at the current prices. I sold him 2000 CCI 250's for $120. A few days later he had them up for $500 each !!! That was the last time I will help anyone out.

At least it didn't cost you much to write him out of your life.

I'd be SERIOUSLY PISSED about that. :(

I had a guy sell me a brick of LR primers for a very good price because I actually needed them and it would never occur to me to turn around and try to make a profit off of someone else's kindness.

What a douche... hope there is some karma for his greed.

Well that's terrible.

At least it didn't cost you much to write him out of your life.

Yeah that is that last time I help some stranger on this forum. Guy capitalized on my generosity.

I'm still trying to find the article from Financial Times, but a number of years ago, after the '08 crash, there was an article about primers being added to the futures market. I don't know if it has occurred, but when traders get involved in commodity futures trading, the prices go into the stratosphere, until there's the inevitable crash, that is.

Ever heard of the Dutch Tulip mania of 1634-37. See Wikipedia (LINK):

'By 1635, a sale of 40 bulbs for 100,000 florins (also known as Dutch guilders) was recorded. By way of comparison, a "tun" (930 kg or 2,050 lb) of butter cost around 100 florins, a skilled laborer might earn 150–350 florins a year, and "eight fat swine" cost 240 florins.'

If you can snag a copy on-line, have a look here [it includes a chapter on the Dutch tulip mania]

I found Small Rifle Primers (CCI BR4) on the shelf (shocked) at Bass Pro yesterday. I bought them, without asking the price, just for the novelty of finding primers on the shelf at a retail store.

Got a bit of a surprise when I found out they were $200 a brick. :( Felt a bit sheepish for a while, until I took a quick trip through ####### listings and couldn't see any SR primers for less than $400 a brick. Then I felt better. Chrisssst they may have been expensive but they were still way cheaper than anywhere else.

In the end they will find a home in the small primer pocket Lapua brass I have on hand, so the purchase was not wasted.

We might think reloading is expensive but good gawd is top quality factory ammo expensive.

Was looking at some used rifles for a friend getting into the sport. Found one in 260 Rem, which is a decent, well rounded cartridge. Factory ammo is somewhat available but prices range from $50 - $80 a box of 20. It'd be cheaper to just set him up w a super basic single stage press so he can load his own. Or worst case he buys the dies and components and I'll make a bunch of ammo with him on my equipment. 260 Rem cases can be easily made by necking down 308 Win cases, which aren't exactly difficult to find.

I don't know how, people who don't reload, can afford to shoot good ammo these days?

that's nothing... try owning and shooting something a little more exotic like 325WSM... IF you can find factory ammo

Haven't pulled a trigger since October,,, Ice fishing has been a great alternative. 2 SWF master anglers so far this season (walleye and rainbow trout). Look at these posts and am glad I have other meaningful hobbies in my life. I'm happy with my inventory of primers/powder/brass but just cant fathom replacing them at todays inflated prices. Maybe in a few years things will change...maybe not.
