That is a crazy collection Epoxy!!! I am also interested in KAC. I could never afford it but the SR25 is incredible from what I have heard and read. I agree with you about LMT, Another nice thing is an LMT not using proprietary HK parts that are harder to source. I am a die hard HK guy though, If I could I would own the mr223 and mr308. Those would be my priority before a KAC or LMT (unless some crazy deal came up).
I wish the HK91 was available to us up here. That would be an instant want for me. The closest thing we can get as far as I know is the HK770 which has the same action as the hk91 but is in a traditional hunting rifle style. I would even consider one of those as well, I have shot a friends quite a few times (he refuses to sell to me) and seen it shoot some impressive groups of just under an inch.
I wouldn't have been able to justify the cost of the SR 25 either. However one sat on the EE for a fairly long time and one of the accepted trades was a Kel tec RFB. Which I happened to have. A buddy and I did extensive ammo testing on his RFB (his arrived a fair bit before mine), so mine was barely used (under 20 rounds). However I knew the RFB pretty well after we finished all the testing. 1.5 moa for 5 rounds using 168 reloads was the very best we could get out of the RFB. It was tough but if there was one semi 308 I was willing to sell/trade the RFB was it. Really tough though to let it go due to it's super short length and bullpup design. But the opportunity to trade towards the SR 25 was there and it was a very fair trade. Otherwise there was no way I could/would have paid the $6100 retail for one. The one I have as shown in the photos is the SR 25 ECR 20" . It does have the older 3.1 rail but... it's also fairly iconic in my mind for the distinct KAC look.
With the LMT you get about 90 percent of the KAC. It used to be at about 50% of the price, but prices have crept up. Still you can sometimes find a good deal on one second hand.
A couple of side notes regarding LMT:
1) The barrels used to be Mike Rock, including the CL ones. I don't know if that's still the case or not (I believe they make them inhouse now?) . However with LMT you know they would only change with an equivalent or better product.
2) The monolithic upper/straight gas block design is used by the Colt Canada C8 IUR versions. LMT has the patent though.
3) ISO 9001 manufacturer
4) Has a very close relationship with KAC
The 223 mrp version is exceptional as well. Thanks to the initial influx of these rifles by Questar back at super shot show pricing there were a fair amount of them bought. Plus they were the "it" gun for a while. Now DD is the one everyone flocks to. Which can leave some smoking deals on these rifles. There are some exceptional products out there that aren't the flavour of the year. LMT is one of them.
I'm a big fan of the HK91 as well. Bartok5 has posted few of those and I'm very jealous! I would definitely want a few of those. Plus they are iconic, like the MP5. Nostagic and very cool firearms. They were one of the first firearms I inquired about when I started into this. Unfortunately they were prohibited.
The HK MR308 isn't too bad price wise considering the prices of these things. I'm looking at you KAC! It's about the same as the LMT. I was however shocked that the 223 version was almost the same money. WTF? Right now you can't even find them. Still the pricing is extremely high for them. I might just stick to the 308 version. See above regarding the US army version. If this is ever released to the public, then this will likely be the ultimate H&K 308. The two major shortcomings are addressed. USA made vs German made however would be another issue.
