I need a NO BS assessment

Finally, after 6 months without, I'm in the market to replace my S&W M&P9 that I was basically forced to sell (long story, interesting, but long). I've been looking at the Glock 17 gen4 and the HK P30L.
My mind was basically made up on buying a brand new Glock gen4 based on the reputation of the previous 3 generations being very reliable guns.
Then, of course, I hear all this noise on the net about the new Glock's dual recoil spring causing all sorts of problems, effectively compromising the gen4's reliability, but of course I also hear lots of people swooning about how much they love their gen4's. WTF??? Is it awesome or does it suck??
Basically what i'm asking is, and I need a no BS assessment from people who own/have trigger time on a 17 gen 4, is it worth buying?(and no I don't feel like waiting weeks for Glock to send me a new RSA) Or should I suck it up and pay almost double for a P30L, that I've heard nothing but great things about?
And before I get a bunch of people telling me to buy a sig, cz, sr9, etc. I've looked at those pistols and am not really interested but thank you. Also, though I loved my M&P9, it's kind of a been there-done that scenario for me. I also prefer to buy my pistols brand new, not from the EE, don't know why exactly, I suppose I'm just a shallow person.

Never had a problem. If it concerns you, there is a spring replacement program, but I am sure the new manufacture gen 4s have the newer spring out of the box.

If it REALLY bothers, find a gen 3. They are still around.

EDIT: Not sure where you are from, but Triggers and Bows in Burford Ontario has a RTF2 G17 in the cabinet.

I have a friend with one, and he has had zero issues with it and quite enjoys shooting it.

There, I got through that post without even saying 'get a Sig'. Santa owes me. :D

some dealers out there still have NIB Gen 3's... I dont like being in the "beta test" club if im paying retail for anything.... either wait a few more months for Glock to turn things around or look for a un-tested an true Gen 3.

Have a G34 Gen3, and I must say it's just stupid.
Not trying to impress, but she does 700-1500 rounds per weekend.

It just will NOT fail. It won't FTFire, FTFeed or FTEject. It won't anything...but work.

I stopped keeping track at 9000. It's better than my Civic or Gixxer :D

There is nothing like a product which you have 100% faith in ;)

If you can find a new in the box Gen 3 at a low price go for it and save your money unless...

You have small hands and need the new back straps for the grip. Or you find the Gen 3 grip slippery and want something with more traction.

The only other advantage of the Gen 4 is the replacement interval for the recoil springs is longer than the Gen 3 so you can shoot more without replacing springs.

5000 rds recommended replacement of the RSA on the Glock 17. and for the nay-sayers, Glock did fix the "issue" if you could call it that, after July 2011 production. Any Glock 17 made after this date already has the "new" RSA installed @ the factory. No Problem=No Brainer :D

Had my Glock 17 Gen4 for a year and a half now. 5300 rounds through it and still going strong with no issues so far.

Regardless, I still ordered the replacement spring a few weeks ago.

I bought the Gen4 because I prefer the Gen4 grip over Gen3 and that's about it.

My 0.02 - buy the P30L. You may be satisfied with a Glock ( I have the Gen3 17), but you will probably end up asking yourself "I wonder how much nicer it would be to have the H&K"

+1. Nobody ever goes to their death bed saying "I wish I'd spent less on my guns".
