I need an Optic for my AR-15

With those criteria, I would recommend an Aimpoint PRO. The 2 MOA dot is daylight visible, easily adjustable, will last you at least three years constantly on at a medium setting. The dot is small enough to be used out to 300 meters, and good for anything closer. It has a build quality superior to any of the clones. Can be used with a magnifier, if required.

If you have the money, why buy something cheaper? Buy the best you can buy within your budget. I know of one Aimpoint that was used for demonstrations, that was detached from a rifle, thrown downrange 1000 times and returned to the rifle, and worked every time. It was only retired because the person using it decided to replace it with a new demo model, and run it on his personal gun.

I prefer EoTechs despite the concerns with the shift. It's not been a problem in 3 years of CQB practice and competition. Maybe it's because I live in BC, and don't have to worry about shooting when it's -30 or +40... I run it with a G33 STS magnifier, and it makes it very flexible. That said, it's still not for precision shooting...

That said, I put a Bushnell AR223 1-4x on another AR and find that is probably my most versatile optic... For CQB I'm almost as fast, and it's much better for distances past 100m.

Why spend $150 on an inferior optic, when you have $500ish to spend? Would you recommend that someone with a $50 000 budget for a vehicle,buy one for $15 000, and just spend the rest on gasoline? Or is it because you have one, because your budget was $150, and you feel the need to recommend what you bought, in some sort of self justification for what you had to settle for?

If the TRS-25 was as good as the PRO, it would cost $500ish. Best keep $150 aside to buy a replacement when it breaks, and before you reply with the usual, "but he isn't going to be shooting anywhere but the range with it", if he pays good money for a class, only to have his optic go down halfway through Day 1, think what a waste of time and money that will be. Aimpoints are acquiring such a reputation for reliability these days, that a lot of very knowledgeable guys are not even bothering to run BUIS any more.

The Eotech problems don't suddenly manifest themselves at -30C and +40C, they occur at temperatures as mild as 0C, as well as high humidity. They just get worse at lower and higher temperatures.

No offense to anyone but it is shockin how many people simply refuse to do ten minutes of research on the KNOWN defects of eotech optics before posting. Even if you had an eotech that has been "trouble free" the fact remains that eotech/L3 admits that all their sights are defective by design. For $800 the optic is junk.

Vortex Strike Eagle 1x6x24

In that price range, this is def. a good choice IMHO. I just put one on one of my guns and it works very nicely. For CQB the 1X is great. For a bit more distance up to 6X is very nice to have. If you are looking for variable magnification, it's a pretty good scope for the price.

If you want a red dot, the Sparc II is nice, if you want to spend more, get an Aimpoint.

A decent quality 1-4, 1 1/2 - 5 scope would be an excellent choice. Good for most any range at which you would use an AR. $500 or less for scope and mount would be quite reasonable.
