I think your application sounds like XCR territory. I personally think none of them are more homely than the other, save for maybe the KRISS~not a fan. Can't think of where you can legally hunt with pistol calibers in S. Ontario either. Tavors (I've held one, never shot one) strike me as being awful for anything but offhand shooting. The XCR (and I just got one) is a very decent rifle for varmint hunting so far, and I like the ability to add a bipod and shoot prone with it. I have no experience with Swiss Arms but in all honesty, the XCR was the upper limit of my budget to put it mildly...so they'r'e out of my league anyway.
