Well, I picked up a Lee Enfield sporter at auction a few days ago. For those interested, it ran me $200 + fees and taxes. Somewhere around $240 all in.
Overall, the rifle is in great condition, stock, bluing and bore.
However, there was no rear sight on it. There seems to be some tapping and marks, which I presume were for a P.O.'s scope mount.
I'm looking for a little bit of insight if anyone can offer me as to what I've got, what's been done, and most importantly what I need!
I plan to use this to hunt, mainly moose, deer, and (from what my instructors have informed of, get a tag for just in case) bear.
I have no desire to ever meet a bear, but, from what they said, it makes sense to have the tag, just in case.
I digress.
I was hoping to learn to shoot using iron sights, but at auction, you get what you get. This is what I got. And I don't know much about it.
Is this something that has been modified where the rear sight has been removed (permanently?) by cutting it off, or is it something that can be reattached and where can I get one?
As for the taps, they seem oddly placed, but makes sense considering what is available. I've looked and it seems that there are some smithless scope mount bases available. I also want to mount a scope, or at the least be able to. I have a bushnell 1.5x - 4.5x which should be good enough to start with, until I can be happy that I'm somewhat accomplished to 100 yards.
So, there it is.
Fire away! (pun intended).
And pics!
