I am in the market for another varmit-deer sized rifle. Mainly for deer. But a carry all type calibre.-.243/25 06 type of thing. What do you guys think I should get? Looking for some reccomendations/suggestions. Input on a new rifle. What do you guys think?

Dave.

Any caliber on the win .308 case makes a good choice, I like the 7mm/08 but as Amphibious said the .260 is a good one as well, for me the short stubby cartridge like .308 case might have a edge over the long cases like 30.06

Don't mess around and go get yourself a .257 Weatherby. mine is zeroed at 300 yards and its flat as a pancake out to 400. Do a google search on Layne Simpson for an article called "From Mice To Moose"

257

I have a 257 weatherby been custom built as we speak and yes they are a flat shooter but if you are going to do alot of shooting I would get a #2 contour barreled 25-06 for more barrel life but my 257 weatherby is my favorite cal. for long range shooting by far on deer sized animals.

243/6mm Rem, 260/6.5x55, 7mm08/7x57, 6.8 SPC, 7.62x39, and 257 roberts can all be found factory chambered.

In fact, there's a rem 788 in 6mm rem in the EE right now. I highly recommend trying a 788, it's a very unique rifle

I have hunted with a 25-06 for the past 3 seasons and we have shot deer past 300 yards in southern Alberta with ease. I have also picked up a heavy barrel Sako in 25-06 and the first day at the range I fired 65 shots with it, then shot 20 more with my HB Rem 308, with Zero signs of a sore shoulder. can't wait to go do it again.FS

I'd be looking for a LSS mountain rifle in .260 or 7mm-08. find a 3.5-10 40mm leupy, talley rings. If a 7mm-08, stoke it w/ 120TSX for big stuff, and 120 vmax for playing. I reeally love my m70 classic featherwieght in 7mm-08, but that ain't an option any more...

Sporting Rounds

I think it depends on where you live decides what suits your needs. I like the 7mm's and am using a Remington 700 BDL in 7-08.

I haven't tested it at long range but at 150 yds it shoots less than an inch. It would have been better but ran out of ammo. This was the second trip to the renge, the first trip it shot all over the place. Then I found out one of the Parker Hale rings was missing the bedding pin that locks into the base.

I haven't shot a 25-06 and think it would be quite accurate. I have a Browning 78 in 6mm that I am going to try out in a few weeks and hopefully it will be a shooter.

I have three Sako's an AI, AII, and AV, in 223, 308, and 270.
How is it they fit better than most guns like Rugers, Remingtons, and Brownings?
