Although I will probably regret it, I ordered:

1 Volquartsen Exact Edge Extractor

1 Volquartsen Ruger 10/22 Extended Magazine Release
1 Volquartsen Ruger 10/22 Bolt Recoil Buffer
1 Hogue Ruger 10/22 Overmold Stock - Heavy Barrel
1 Volquartsen Ruger 10/22 Receiver Scope Mount
1 Volquartsen Ruger 10/22 Target Trigger

Hopefully this will make a decent gopher gun. I wanted to get a B&C stock, but the funds were limited. Maybe I will get one next year. This will be my first (and hopefully last) 10/22 build for the next couple of years. I agonized over getting a tapped barrel and the Volquartsen Barrel Mount, but decided to stay with the 16" barrel instead of the 18" one. Although I'm thinking the 18" barrel might look better, and the barrel mount would be the more accurate of the two, I'm hoping this will be minute of gopher on a good day.
 
I hope so. I have never done this before. It is going to be a gopher gun (primarily) so I'm hoping the stock will be OK for off hand shooting. Maybe next year I will get a B&C stock or something similar if this one doesn't work out.
 
I have the 16' green mountain barrel, looks great, balance is good, and its a tack driver. I prefer the ruger 10 round mags as the 25 round mags stick out too far, especially when prone. I dont have the skeeter trigger but its coming. Finicky with ammo though. Blazer, Scoremaster and Gold Medal has feeding problems. Cheap walmart winchester works great. CCI seems to be pretty good so far. Needs to be cleaned to prevent feeding problems.

At 25 metres its one hole, havent tried benching it at 100 yet.
 
I have the skeeters deluxe trigger kit as well (someone graciously sent it to me off of RFC for free :)). The trigger pull right now is about 2 lbs. I took out the factory trigger release spring to make it kind of like a 2 stage. I got the factory trigger down to 1.8 pounds too :D

Mine has a GM barrel on it and it is a TACK DRIVER!

hey CZ seems like you haven't been around in a while? What ever happend with the GCN 50/100 yard match?
 
I wasn't aware of the place with free shipping and ended up ordering from Shooters Solutions. Hopefully the shipping isn't too bad.
 
skeeters kit

Put in skeeters deluxe kit awhile back.Have'nt been able to get to the range yet but it sure feels good[about 2 lbs.]I ended up going with the boyds blaster,but was thinking about the hogue overmolded.I might get one of those next year.Let us know how you like it.I'm thinking about maybe building a .22 mag. next, if my wife will let me.ha ha
 
I also had a 16" GM barrel. I doubt you'll be disappointed with the accuracy. Also, as a a gopher gun, I think you might get a little more smack out of the bullets compared to shooting them out of a longer barrel (louder too). Not sure if that will relate to much in terms of gopher stopping power :) . Also I found the shorter barrel balanced better. It wasn't as front heavy. That VQ extractor is a must, especially when installing an aftermarket bull barrel.

Why is this? The case is pushing against the bolt face, the extractor theoretically isn't really needed unless you're ejecting an unfired round. I don't really get why they seem so popluar as an automatic upgrade. I can understand buying a new extractor if you're having ejection problems, but why would they be more important with a heavier barrel?
 
compared to the factory one, which I have replaced 2 of in the last week.... one off of a new rifle and one off an older rifle where the factory one chipped.

The VQ one seems to be a lot better built, the edge is straight and not rounded like factory, the spring provided with the kit is also a little shorter.

for $10 and if it offers even a smidgen of reliability improvement it is well worth the money..... but frankly unless you drop on an aftermarket barrel I would leave the stock one on there.
 
I think there might be a tighter fit with the Bentz chamber as opposed to the factory one. But I could be wrong. Id it hard to change the extractor? I have only done one before and it was on my MkII.
 
extractor was easy to change, just find a stout paper clip and poke it in the hole to hold the spring back and then force the spring back a little more and the extractor wiggles out.

replace spring with VQ one and then do oppisite to replace... takes 4 minutes max
 
I think I read somewhere that it was suggested to use the factory spring with the VQ extractor. Any idea as to why?
