So bought a model 19. Loaded up some light 38special loads for it and went to the range. Put 6 shots through no problem, nice light load. Load up the next 6 and start shooting at longer range. Fire 6 times and go to check my target. No holes. Turns out the first shot was a squib but since it was such a light load I didn't think anything of the light recoil and continued to shoot. All 6 rounds ended up in the barrel and she's now ruined.

Anyone out there have a barrel for a model 19 let me know. Or if anyone wants to buy a model 19 with 6 bullets stuck in the barrel have I got a deal for you.

Would you be able to heat of the barrel slowly so as not to lose any strength and yet melt the lead out?

If not send me the barrel I would love to have it for my handgun course as a teaching aid!

I call BS until I see pictures.

Those would have to be some seriously "light loads" to have 6 rounds collect in the barrel. You probably shouldn't have a hand right now.

On Guns and Ammo TV they did this and I think they had at least four rounds in the barrel. The guns are very durable. Very possible.

I offer $80.

If there was six rounds in the barrel without a buldge, then there was probably almost zero to zero power in the cartridges. Had it happen to my dad and I at a competition. I stopped after the first round poofed instead of banged, and he did two or three before the cylinder locked up.

Check to ensure that your powder was still dumping.

Why not just remove the bulets using a dowel the same diameter as the inside of the barrel? I'm assuming that the barrel was not bulged or otherwise harmed, just plugged with lead.

The problem is, an airtight plug met an airtight plug, compressing the air trapped between. Odds are, there are now 5 rings of displaced metal that you can feel from the outside of the barrel.

This is a good time to concider making up a PPC or NRA Action Pistol revolver.

Brownells sells pre-contoured barrel blanks, but you need a decent smith to dress the end of the barrel for cylinder gap, and to install a ball detent in the crane.

x2
like he said get a dowel and push the bullets out, starting from the muzzle of course...

This isn't a time for Bubba measures. I'm a do it myself sort but in this case I'd be taking it to a smith to look at.

With .38Spl rounds and especially if they were some low power cowboy action loads or similar it's quite possible that the barrel may be OK if it is treated right in getting it back into business. But a regular smith will also be able to measure and judge the barrel's condition for safety and function.

I saw one just like this at the S&W factory warantee/repair center They replaced the barrel and cut the old one in half lengthways. Pretty interesting to see them all stacked up.

how come you never emailed me to go shooting you focker.

Are you sure the barrel is ruined?
I had the same thing happen to me many years ago. I had some light loads for my Chief's Special with a two inch barrel, but when I tried them in a new Model 27 with a six inch barrel, they stacked up in the barrel and I didn't notice anything different until bullet #6 tossed bullet #1 out the barrel and it bounced off the cardboard target holder. I took the revolver home and drove five bullets out of the barrel. Everything was perfect.

I watched my dad reload some soft 38 Spls that did the same thing, except he loaned the gun to a fellow who put 11 semi wad cutters in the barrel.

The plan was to use a long shank bit and brace auger to drill down through the lead cores, then thread in a long rod and hammer (or pull) out the bullets. Except he got worried about the bit getting stuck and tried to back it out ... the bit broke. S&W replaced the barrel. I guess this is a common enough occurence.
