Elwood Epps website lists 2 BRNO 21H now and I'm sure they won't last long.
I think there is room for another in my safe, :D

Okay, I like the looks of that! I'm going to have to do some searching around. Apparantly there are more out there than I knew. I'll check out the ones mentioned. Maybe I'll consider trading in my S&W 617 on something.Here I go again, more regrets! Na, I haven't shot it at all lately.

I have both the Ruger Mk II in 30-06 and a CZ too but in a different cal. The CZ is an elegant design and is way above the Ruger for fit and finish but had I known about the CZs I probably would only have them now. They sure do put a rifle together nicely and the Ruger looks thick by comparison. Tack drivers all so far especially my 223. Such a lovely little rifle and begs to be picked up and appreciated. The Ruger is a work horse and is a reliable, effective tool but the CZ is such a nice ride. Still, Im keeping the Ruger. Tough is good too.
 
I'm a big CZ fan, own several, but don't discount the Ruger M77 MkII for a mauser actioned hunter. THE smoothest mausers I've experienced, and literally tougher than most rocks. For a hunting gun, can't be beat, and have a stainless bolt group in a nice blued chassis. I LOVE my M77 MkII International (full stock), in my opinion the best hunting rifle there is for Canada.
 
rifle regrets

I've probably sold 4 dozen rifles/shotguns :sniper: and only regretted 1, or 2 sales that got away. Both rifles sold have since been replaced in similar caliber with up-graded models, i.e. 7WSM in a Winchester Coyote and a Ruger #1 in 25.06. Though I do regret not ever buying a CZ 550 - yet.:)Had a very slightly used CZ with shadow-line cheekpiece in my hands once, but couldn't afford it at the time.
 
I appreciate the feedback greatly everyone! I still have my 527 kevlar that will never go anywhere, and like bogie said it's a tack driver. My 550 was a beutiful piece, yet I sold it, twice! I will take a look at the rugers maybe tomorrow, but how do they preform? What about the winchesters or the remmy 798's? I will be getting another 550 in a safari chamber anyway(would really like a .505 for my Tanzania trip, which is most likely only another 18 years away.lol) So, this one really just needs to be a decent shooter for hunting. I already have a few paper punchers. Possibly something in a bit more fun caliber.

From a man who loves the Varmint Kevlar (we have similar tastes), REALLY, try the Ruger. I've owned and shot literally everything, and I always go back to the M77 as a hunting rifle. The Rem 798 doesn't really offer a good value compared to the M77 in my opinion, and with the Ruger, you're buying made in the USA which still counts for something. I like to send my money within the continent.

I liked the Winchester M70 Classic (controlled round feed), but the Ruger M77 still beats it on sturdiness, feel, and speed of cycling the action for me. Plus they offer it in such neat models... anything your heart desires, stainless, blue, short, long, light, heavy, laminate, walnut, synthetic... and in some niche calibers to boot like .257 Roberts, .260 Remington, 7mm-08, .375 Ruger, etc etc. Maybe look at a .375 Ruger as an all around African/North American hunting gun...?

Orrrr.... check out the gorgeous Magnum (Safari) model. :eek:

I have owned several Rugers and they are all reliable-thats why I bought them and have not ever had a problem with any of them. Even the 1022 was pretty much bulletproof compared to other semis I have had. If you ask a lot of hunters, the Rugers aint pretty so much but they always get the job done and they make their own barrels. Probably one of the best machining facilities in the firearms market right now. The 77mkII 30-06 is staying in the safe and the joy of it is I was able to get it in both stainless and left hand bolt. Off the shelf no less. I can put a 1-2/2in group into a target at 200m and it has only been floated and yet to be bedded. I have done nothing to it. Everything I want except levers maybe can come out of these 2 lines but if you want the weird cals you will have to get a Ruger somewhere along the line. They sure do list a lot of cals in their line. Might even look at that lever of theirs too.
 
Thanks! I am deffinately leaning towards the Ruger now(for new anyway). Just another question though, does no one like the rem 798? Has anyone had any experience with them at all? I handled one the other day and it didn't seem too bad. It was a bit clunky, but my cz550 was also until I put some rounds through it. I haven't seen much feed back from anyone who actually owns one so far though.

Trade Ex have (had) the original version of the 798, mean the Zastava M/70 in brand new, unfired condition (# 6388 to 6394 - in .308 Win). These rifles are the Serb version of the FN Improved M/98. They're not bad, but the finishing is not as great as a Husky (HVA) 1640 can be.

All in all a fair purchase. Nothing to jump to the ceiling, though.

My own personal choice is definitely a HVA 1640 (and if you are patient, these were also made in .308 Win).

I just sold my CDL SF .30-06 Limited...I already regret it :(. I'll be buying a New Model 70 Extreme SS in .308 and buying a wood stock for it...so in the end I'll have spent MORE money to buy as nice of a rifle as I just sold for 200$ less than I payed for it :(. Oh well I'll get over it.
 
When I was about 14 years old I hunted with a Mannlicher-Schoenauer sporter-stocked carbine (not the Mannlicher stock), in 6.5X54MS. My dad had to sell it to get me into my first serious hunting rifle, a Winchester 70A westerner in 7mm Rem Mag. I was elated to get the Winchester, but when I found out that it cost me the Mannlicher, it turned into a bitter-sweet joy.

Oh well, you just got twice the rifle by going to the M70. You won't miss the Model 700... believe me, you'll be happy. :)

I just bought the hunting rifle I really wanted... .375 H&H Ruger Safari Magnum. I also sold my M77 International to help fund it... here's to hoping it was a wise move.
 
I have 2 CZs-a CZ452 22lr leftie and a CZ527 223 leftie too. They sure do make a purdy rifle. Even prettier inside. The 527 is the minimauser action actually designed for small cals like the 223 and it is a delight to shoot. Both tackdrivers out of the box. Pretty classy ride all in all. I can see these holding their value.
