I think my 10/22 barrel is pooched.

I've been having some problems with my butler creek carbon fiber barrel recently. i've tried everything to correct it. I got a new stock i bedded the receiver and pillar bedded the action screw. free floated the barrel and barrel v-block.

it used to shoot great(1/2" at 50yards with dynapoint) well it still does if you only shoot a couple rounds from a cold barrel. now i think it's contracted the famous "shoots like garbage when the barrel warms up" Today at the range i could get the first 5 shots into one raged hole then i proceeded to put about 50rounds through it and the groupings got up around 1.5-2"

anyone have any suggestions, other than replacing the barrel?

could my barrel bolts be too tight/loose?
should i try "clamping" the barrel in place so it can't shift POI?
should i just bed the v-block and the first 3" of the barrel?

Yep.. the Butler Creek carbon fiber ones are garbage.. and its so hard to get the Volquartsen ones up here...

Green Mountain would probably be the way to go now... or the really expensive tuned BC barrels, with the thin flutes. That barrel shot amazing for me...

my best results- receiver unbedded, pillar bedded action screw, then bed 3" up the barrel - free float from there.
In your present configuration try the volqu. pillar bedding barrel pressure pad up front.

is this with a BC carbon fiber barrel?

My understanding is that this bedding system works best with all barrels due to the design of the 1022 barrel to receiver mounting design.

The design also requires the scope mount to be bolted to the receiver and barrel for the best accuracy (because of stacking tolerances between aluminum and steel, dissimilar expansion due to temperature changes etc.)

Properly bedded , a 1022 is capable of 5 rd .22 cal groups at 100 yds.
My ruger with a stock bull barrel is, and thats without a benz chamber ! :)

Most likely the barrel is NFG. The Butler Creek carbon fibre barrels have a very poor reputation. Even the all steel Butler Creek barrels are a huge improvement.
