I want a 25-06

Sorry bearhunter, I couldn't resist.:p I'm partial to Savage rifles as I have always found them to be accurate. You might have something sitting in your safe that doesn't get used and could be rebarreled. Cooper rifles are nice if you have the cash.

I have a Ruger 77 (tang safety) that I restocked with a boyd's laminate, and it shoots the lights out. Got a couple of next area-code wolves last year with it. (long shot on a frozen lake = area-code wolf)

After hearing of their performance capabilities and looking for something to 'reach out' for pred and varmint hunting, I settled on a Savage 112BVSS in 25-06. I did put decent glass on it but was quite pleased with the bang for the buck accuracy.

I'd start with a Marlin XL7. You'll be surprised at those rifles. Very good deal with lots of value and are all good shooters.

.

A-bolt, X-bolt, M70, Rem 700, the options are almost countless.
Value for the bang goes to the Wby. Vanguard for out of the box accuracy and price point.
But, I would go for the one that fits me well .
I certainly wouldnt be opposed to getting a rifle in 25-06 from the same manufacturer ... rifle familiarity comes to mind.
So, what are you leaning towards?

Savage stevens - throw a rifle basix trigger in it and slap a boyds stock on it if you want it to "look purdy" but not end up bawling like a baby when you scratch or dent it.

Or...remington, winchester, tikka, sako....I hate all things browning personally - I've had nothing but trouble with them.
