Ideal Bush gun

I would send some of those bullets, but that is an older pic and not representative of current supplies on hand. My 358 seem to like those Speers so I should probably keep what I have left. Have you tried 250gr Hornadys?

It's a M700 BDL.

Right on SuperCub,.....no I haven't tried the 250 Hornadys yet, but I have been trying to find the 250gr Hornady RN,...The only box I have came across was at a gun show this spring but I had already spent my budget on other more needed/wanted items. I only want these for bear hunting,...I have some 250gr Nosler Partitions that I plan to use for bears, but I think they are a bit of over kill and they take up alot of powder space,..plus I can't get them to group all that well.

Try Higginson's. They seem to have a good supply of Hornady bullets incl some of the older ones no longer made.

I might be able to help you with some Hornady 250SPs but need to do some more load work on the Speers before I sell them.

Thanks for the offer SuperCub, but I know where I can get some 250SPs. Another bullet that I am going on the hunt for is 220gr Speer FN.,.. I only have a part box left. Probably not an easy find, but I do have info on who may have some.

Thanks again,..not too many people will offer to sell you some of their stash.

I like the feel of them, but i cant seem to find any with chrome barrels that are NR, and that concerns me for the bush. I see alot on EE without chrome, i clean my guns well and every weekend i do a once over, so chrome shoulnt be a concern. But in the back of my mind i think it is

The mini 30, is chrome lined but wont let me plink surplus ammo due to harder primers, (according to my Gunsmith, and a few you tube videos) mind you when im hunting, i will be using Hunting ammo which the mini is good at cycling. I shot a friends last year, and it was nice, felt good, light weight and irons were easy to use. I just want a semi fairly cheap (minis most of the time are not) that will eat all types of ammo reliably for plinking and fun days, as well as click bang thud the deer when i see it.

All the new CSA vz 58's imported 2014 or later all come chrome lined in all configurations, the reason you're seeing so many of the non chrome ones on the EE is probably people making room to get the newer chromed ones.

Works very well!

That target you say it was 300 yards? Not too bad a 7" 7shot group at 300 with a BLR71.......

.......seriously,... good groups at 100 man, my .308 wouldn't do that on any day with any load.;)

Hey all, so got back from a range and man, my eyes opened up. friends got together for a range day....i hinted we bring all NR to have some fun, shotys, levers, bolts and semis. I got my Savage 30-06 dialed in 3 in high at 100 like some informed me is a great idea for my scope. had a fun time with the clays, my versa max and 870 rocked the pigeons all afternoon.

Now to the amazing part. So, i started this chat thinking i needed a short barrel, semi auto rifle in 762, but to my amazment, one of the freinds that showed to the range had a few levers. A 22, 357, and a 3030. Wow, im telling you, wow. I never thought after a few rounds how fun it is to shoot the old west levers. His marlin 336 was smooth, he had i think a henry 22 and the 357 i cant remember. He used to do cowboy action, but now just shoots for fun and meat. So that being said, where can i find a Marlin 336BL, need the big loop for my mits, his normal loops crushed my fingers, he said after a few tips, that i would need a BL for my mits and gloves in wither hunts.

So anyone, know where they may have a sale on, or stock to order a Marlin 336 BL in 3030. Or maybe someone on this form looking to off load one. Also, i see on the Marlin sight that the 336 BL comes in 18". Being a lever gun, i am guessing that this is still NR, some one correct me if im wrong!

The marlin is indeed NR

they are fairly popular guns so most major gun stores should carry them and they pop up on the equipment exchange pretty often. Have to be careful with the ones made in the last 10 years or so as quality control hasn't been overly stellar

Just cuz you want a lever now, doesn't mean you can't have a 7.62/.308...

Winchester model 88

I vote for a steyr in .450 marlin, I picked one up on a lark an it has quickly become my favorite guns. It's got enough punch to handle anything and is scary accurate.

I just purchased a Sako Bavarian Carbine in 6.5x55, as my bush gun. It's short, handy, and reliable, and the cartridge is suitable for deer, elk and moose.

I would really like an RFB for hunting the thick stuff. I've also considered a Beretta Storm carbine in 45ACP, with a non restricted barrel. I'd load it pretty hot, maybe use 45-08 brass. Bet it would slam the heck out of a deer at 100 yards.

No such thing as a perfect deer rifle/cartridge .
Otherwise there would only be one gun and one bullet for the job.
But, then again those hairy buggers in pink dresses will step up and tell us we are all wrong.
Buy a bolt action in 30:06 and you are good to go for any game animal in NA.

Any short barrelled rifle like the ruger compact or any thing with a barrel 16" or less you will love short rifle in thick stuf
