IDF M14 parts kits picture thread!

You have my attention.....

I assume you started with a bare receiver?

How long did it take for assembly? It would be nice not having to hand fit parts.....

John

From a quick going over, all the parts are H&R. (tried to get TRW). Once the stub was off I cleaned the barrel and it measured a 1 on my throat erosion gauge. As everything was assembled I popped off the handguard, installed the entire front end in the barrel vice and spun the receiver on. My digital angle finder measured the timing to .00 degrees. Perfect every time. Once that was done it became a simple field strip in reverse. I swapped out the supplied bolt with a TRW one. I only have .308 headspace gauges and they gave it a favorable reading. The receiver had the stripper clip guide, bolt catch and op rod spring guide pin lock installed before hand. I had to remove the pin lock as the receiver wrench would have crushed the small pin. I am more than pleased with the results. As I was looking for a battle used firearm and reparking was never considered there was no reason to tear it down to individual bits 'n pieces. K.i.s.s. seems to have worked out for me.

p.s. as my garage is not heated it took almost 90 minutes as I had to warm my hands between receiver swap. Big steel parts and tools were cold.

How does everyones barrel's look? Mines an H&R dated to 1960 by the looks of it, seems like its got some chrome peeling but I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking at, anything to be worried about?
EDIT: Added photo to get an idea

Finally finished one last night. Lapping takes a while but the end result is perfect. I dropped it in a walnut stock for testfiring purposes. If all goes well at work I might get out tonight to see how it shoots

As Forrest Gump said, "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're getting".

There's nothing wrong with HRA barrels. Back in the good old days I used to shoot a stock HRA M14 and it shot like a champ.

Can't wait for mine to arrive :) I wonder how many kits were imported. This might end up being the longest, most viewed thread yet eh?

I got two rear sight assemblies with my kit. :)

None of the parts appear to be marked. One is light in color, the other is dark. Both came with the stripper block guide.

Barrel: H&R
Op Rod: TRW
Bolt: H&R
Trigger housing: TRW

Too tired to take it apart and clean it tonight. I'll try to get to it tomorrow and post some pics up as well.

Got free from work early & was able to shoot a few rounds from the new build. Upper left group of four freehand and the tight group was leaning on the truck. 50 paces to the truck I would guess. Sirplus bulk ammo. Fire casings measured 1.6304 - 1.6305
The heavy barrel might have some accuracy left in it.

My kit came in the mail today. Now to decide if I should go wood or use the Israeli stock, it's kind of a mess. Leaning towards getting a Boyds.

Winchester barrel, marked Nov. 62. Looks mint for a 55 year old surplus barrel.
Winchester Bolt (EE marked)
Winchester trigger housing (66118) / H&R Safety & Hammer
TRW Op rod
Unmarked rear sight base
