We did have IDF surplus M14s imported into Canada in the late 1980s. Unfortunately they are now classed as 12(3) and prohibited courtesy of the Mulroney/Campbell Govt in the early 1990s and the follow on Chretien Liberals.

How are these different from m1a loaded or national match ?

These M14's were made under contract for the US military and receiver capable of full auto fire. M1A loaded or national match made by private company for the civilian market and semi auto only. As semi autos they shoot the same with similar accuracy.

Value is considerably diminished for 2 reasons; these can only be owned by those who are grandfathered for 12(3) and the fact that the government will not issue ATTs for owners to take them to the range.

USGI M14 parts are in demand for use on the Norinco rifles, so the value is basically in the parts, except for the receiver which is a paper weight.

Its all too bad. As far as can be determined 12(3) converted autos have never been used for criminal purposes, but nevertheless our country is a much safer place now that they are off the streets.

The conversions seem to vary depending what part of the country they were done. Irony is they were all semi auto to begin with without the switch.

I bought some back in the day with israeli contract leatherwood 3x9 ART 2 scopes and israeli k98 308 sniper rifles with swiss 4x scopes

Generally the M14's were delivered in semi auto configuration with the selector lock in place. The selector switch and spring could be installed to make them select fire. In reality the bulk of them never were capable of full auto fire at any time during their lives. I have recently seen brand new selector kits sold in the US that included both the lock and switch. Modifications to civilian M14/M1A receivers make installation of the parts difficult. I won't say impossible because where there is a will there is a way. You would not want to be found in possession of an M14 with the switch installed. There are dummy switches that sort of give the appearance of the original but they lack the connector. Does not look right anyway.
