IDPA/CDPA Whinning and #####ing

Very well put, and to let you know, we in CDP do honour and welcome shooters from IDPA, PPC, IPSC, ODPL and what ever is approved by the CFO in Ontario. This is the only logical way to do things and enjoy this sport.

Again, very well put bluesclues.

So you honour IPSC Black badge course and don't have to take the CDPA course? If so why were we required to take the CDPA competitors course?

I cannot answer that, I am not the administrator for CDP or CSSA. I was told in my Intructors Course is that we will honour IPSC Black Badge certified shooters as well as IDPA, PPC, and the other defensive pistol style shooting and holster qualified leagues approved by the CFO in Ontario and I do so without hesitation.

We offer a pre-match briefing on safety and rules to IPSC/PPC/M&P for those that didn't take the course. For the best edge, it's worth it to sit down and understand all the rules before you start getting penalties. However we're here for a good time, if you want to learn on the go, we'll take the time to get you through it. We don't judge your performance on your rank, but on the smile that you couldn't kick off a guy's face. For days.

We just finished a DP/Carbine match up in Virden. I'm not sure what rules we used, but boy did everyone have fun! Probably the best weekend of shooting i've done, and no complaints heard all day.

If you look through this thread  you will find a number of posts that said that the CDP course was not required if you had either the Black Badge or PPC holster course. While it is desirable to have the CDP course it was never a requirement.

Last year I had a beef about having to be a member of CSSA (or join at the time of the course) in order to shoot in MDPL. (I thought the extra cost will discourage some who may want to try xDPA)

It was explained to me that you don't have to be a member of CSSA in order to shoot, that other holster/safety courses were acceptable, that CSSA membership was only required to take the CDP course, not shoot in a match. At that point I felt I was not being blackmailed into joining CSSA in order to shoot MDPL. I ended up joining CSSA on it's own merits prior to deciding on taking the CDP course.

I still would like it if it was not a requirement to join CSSA in order to take the CDP course. I think we could get more shooters this way. I have concerns about CSSA's involvement in this sport.

In my last course, I had two shooters that were both Black Badge qualified and active IPSC shooters but not members of the CSSA. I explained to both of them that they did not have to take the CDP course and could still participate in CDP matches but also they would not have a CDP certificates issued unless they joined the CSSA as they are the ones who issue it. Neither of them had any issue with this, and did not want to join CSSA, but insisted on paying the $50.00 fee for the course and both attend our matches on a regualr basis without complaint, only enjoyment.

Actually that is different from what I was told by CSSA, as a PPC instructor.

You have to be a member of CSSA to take any course offered by them.

Hmm, at one point there was simply a $30 or so fee hike for non-members.

For what it's worth, Dave Burke is moving houses and probably won't weigh back in on this 'issue' for a while.

Hi Pop,

If a guy is very familiar with the shoot, and there are no delays with regards to longer than necessary explanations and no equipment issues, a single shooter could be finished in as little 20 min or so with a good crew running it. However this is usually not the way it goes down! Everything has to go right!!! LOL

Just a heads up. Go for accuracy then speed in the early going and do the same at the end and you will be OK. Hate to drop time early be being careless cause it is easy to add to your time by adding -3's to your card at 20 yards. Especially true when the clock is going tic tic tic

Good Luck

I'm going to give it a whirl on Thursday night. I'll let you know how it goes!
FYI ... for IDPA classifiers (only) use of concealment is not neccessary... have fun.

and Burke charges $150.00

Clearly you need to check the facts. As posted previously our courses are $50.00 accross period. No instructor expenses extra.

Have a nice day.
