I always laugh when I see some of the above comments. Typically speaking good shooters engage targets in the most advantageous way possible, this means pieing corners, which is "tactical", near to far etc. As well reloads done on the move to top of your gun and letting the other mags go, is faster and more likely to keep you in the fight with a working gun, instead of worrying about putting mags away and keeping track of what's in what. Anyone who has done any amount of force on force training knows that tactical mag changes just don't happen very often. Its dump and go. Things in real world defense tactics have changed monumentally since IDPA was invented. Its a game the same as IPSC with just different rules. Both are fun games, but neither one is in any way representational of a real world gun fight. If you want that, Sims, Airsoft, SIRT and the like are what you are looking for. Anything else is just trigger time in a safe environment.

Note the equipment used. Hosters and handguns as well as concealment garment.

Inexpensive holsters, stock handguns. Common ones are Glock, CZ, Sig and some 1911s. There is no trigger weight limitation in the rules, however there are limitations on what can be modified in the factory handguns.

There is no Black Badge equivalent in IDPA, so you don't need to have a BB and keep it current to shoot IDPA. There is a classifier which will determine what level you will be competing in. One can shoot as an novice as unclassified. Basically one can start shooting IDPA once you are a member of IDPA by paying the fees. Of course with the sanctioned equipment. Its much simplier and the atmosphere in IDPA is not so much on competition but rather having fun in a safe way. No one really cares very much about score although it is recorded.

Very cool videos, thanks for posting them Katana and for bringing them to my attention Hugadog. Looking forward to the day we can shoot that at Poco! Sure looks like a lot of fun.

It is lots of fun. This afternoon Rottboy and I will bedriving to Chilliwack to shoot the weekly IDPA practice in the indoor range starting at 6pm. In summer we shoot in the open.come and join us and give it a try. We will lend you the equipment if you don't have any.

I would REALLY love to join you guys...but I gotta work. How nice it would be to have some time to go out somewhere and shoot in daylight. Sadly, with the hours I work, the only time I get is the Weds nights at the club. And even that, I've not been able to make it for the last little while due to overtime at work.

I did try steel shooting before. Found it interesting. IPSC just seems too extreme for me (Extreme pistol is the same as IPSC right?).

Between the PPC, IPSC and IPSC like steel matches it seems like PoCo has a pretty full schedule already. So there's no lack of events to shoot in.

As for IPSC being extreme just stay in the Production category where the guns are very much kept simple in the same manner as IDPA. Just avoid the pressure to move over to the race gun class.

However the big issue would be who is going to step up and run an IDPA series if you want one. If you've been involved in IPSC at all and gone out to help set up you'll know that there's a bunch of folks needed to set up and run such an event. And the ones doing the IPSC events are already tapped out for their volunteer hours. So if IDPA was to happen at PoCo or any other club it would need a new group of members to step up and volunteer to set up and run the event. Until such a group is put together there won't be any new events. If you're a member at PoCo, could arm twist and brow beat some fellow members and other shooting buddy's into putting in the effort and approach the exec with such a plan with names attached I don't doubt that they would find some time for a trial match or two. And generally once such an event is announced you'd get a good assortment of folks out to try it.

Go to the start of this poll such a group exists and are more than willing to start and run IDPA at PoCo. No arm twisting necessary. All they need is a favourable response from the BoD.

Take Care

I have been participating in IPSC since the mid 80's. I've helped out to set up stages, tear down, fabricate steel targets and repair them. BCRider is right, you need a few people to make this work. Most of the time when it's time to set up, the same people show up. It is also the same when it is time to tear down, some shooters disappear and do not help. This is because some people show up to shoot and then leave. The people who always set up and tear down eventually get sick of it and stop. I'm taking a break from IPSC, but wouldn't mind trying out IPDA. I shoot out of Poco so if you guys need some help let me know.
Peace

.......PoCo has a pretty full schedule already. So there's no lack of events to shoot in...........

As previously stated earlier, the objective is to be complementary to the other committees activities. In an earlier post, referring to their 2010 calendar of activities, Poco's available-unutilized days for their bays was more than sufficient to create regular dates for IDPA practises and monthly matches. Let's assume half that number will be available in 2011, those dates are still bountiful!!!!
On the issue of manpower, there is a core of 5 Poco members (3 are SO rated) who are current IDPA members. Its within this group that the effort will be done to carry out the IDPA activites. As indicated (also in an earlier post) we have lot of Chilliwack IDPA members who are willing to assist.

..........wouldn't mind trying out IPDA. I shoot out of Poco so if you guys need some help let me know. Peace

Any and all help is much appreciated!!!!

Ah, that's good to hear. And yes, I would be more than willing to journey in from The 'Wack to participate and lend a hand where possible if I'm not otherwise commited on any given date. More shooting is always funner... :D

Rottboy will be making yet another presentation on 8th March, next Tuesday to the BOD. Let's see what the result will be. Would love to know what concerns the "No" votes have against IDPA at Poco so that we all can address the issues productively. Afterall the more fun the better. Right?

...Keep us all informed.............

Fellows, IDPA affiliation proposal was the first item on the agenda. Presentation made and followed by Q/A. All queries were answered comprehensively. The decision is now in the hands of the EC and have requested to inform the result as soon as available.
As there were no areas of conflict (at least, during the presentation), have relayed to the secretary that if there are issues that need further clarrification, they have all my contact info and am ready to provide all necessary information. Hopefully, this is the year for a positive outcome.
Updates to follow. In the meantime, happy shooting to us all!!!!

Good presentation. Great effort. The ball is in their court. Let's see whether the result of this little survey will influence their decision, keeping the fingers crossed.
