I have shot both a lot. I prefer IPSC/USPSA over IDPA, so much to the point that I stopped shooting IDPA altogether.
To me the way you compete/play IPSC, the stages and the rules lend it to being a far more fun day of shooting in my opinion.
Both sports have nice people and both sports have jerks and everything in between. The thing is, IPSC rules are structured much better so the jerks can't screw up your match/day whereas the IDPA rules are set up in such a way that the jerks can most definitely screw up your match/day.
