IDPA vs IPSC

I have shot both a lot. I prefer IPSC/USPSA over IDPA, so much to the point that I stopped shooting IDPA altogether.

To me the way you compete/play IPSC, the stages and the rules lend it to being a far more fun day of shooting in my opinion.

Both sports have nice people and both sports have jerks and everything in between. The thing is, IPSC rules are structured much better so the jerks can't screw up your match/day whereas the IDPA rules are set up in such a way that the jerks can most definitely screw up your match/day.

IPSC, because there is no penalty for 'failure to do right' or penalty for reloading while not being 'close enough to cover' and no will argue that 45% of your upper torso was behind cover instead of the required 50%.

This.

The lack of uniformity applying these pentalies really turned me off IDPA.
I've seen bad calls and poor stage design in IPSC resulting in DQ's. The point being play the game you enjoy without knocking the other guy.

Well we weren't talking about DQ's. BTW shooters DQ themselves, the RO only stops the game to notify them of the DQ. My point was that some of the rules in IDPA make as much sense to me as the scoring process in Olympic Ice Dancing.

Well one is a sport and the other is a... sport (you pick which is which).
I will admit I am partial to IPSC, I started in IDPA though, but caught the "more rounds equals more fun" bug early. But that's me, I don't care what you want to shoot, IPSC, IDPA, 3 Gun, Trap, Skeet, Biathlon whatever, go out have fun. Divisiveness in our sports will kill us all.

Yes, and I am willing to bet your understanding of the IPSC scoring/classification system is about the same as your understanding of the scoring for Ice Dancing. The rules of any given sport are the rules. They are written to set out how the game is played. They are not written with the intent of making sense to those who have an opinion as to how they would like their pmt sport to be played. pmt can write the rules for his sport and play happily all he wants. If he wants to play IDPA or IPSC the rules are there,

IPSC combines shooting with athleticism to a much higher degree than IDPA does to be sure. IDPA is based upon the defensive use of a handgun with rules that at times are at odds with real world tactical situations because IDPA is a sport not real world. IDPA tries to measure the best shooter among a group within a division by controlling how the stage is shot. The rules reflect that. If all shooters shoot the stage the same way the shooter with the most shooting skills should win. Stages are shorter which places more emphasis in shooting then running, Both are fun to shoot. Play one or both and encourage others to do the same. The more folks playing sports with handguns the better.

Take Care

Bob
