Why don't we ask the mods to close this one down and start a new thread on that very topic.
Take Care

While my question was a joke, you bring up a very interesting point. So would an open style sight not be a good idea on a duty gun (not concealed).
Why not? If a holster could be made to work around the mount and sight. Despite all the usual bickering that these threads bring up, IPSC has done one thing well, and that is find how to make a pistol faster, more accurate and more reliable. Current Open guns may not be concealable, but there is a trickle down effect. Besides, 20 years ago, what do you think people would have said if you told them service rifles would come with Red dot or other optics as issued? Or on Saws for that matter? Think of the top Open guns in the US. Low recoil, near .357 mag. ballisics, accurate, optics, 30 round mags. Whats not to like?
It's not like it hasn't happened...lolI agree, these things should be considered.
Now take your race gun wioth the heads up display on it load a mag, charge the pistol...
Now toss it on the ground.
If you can do this comfortably then it should be an option.
It's not like it hasn't happened...lol
Pats open gun? I wouldn't treat my SVI that way for the same reason as I don't beat the crap out of my 4x4. Now take a Glock with a J-point, comp or ported barrel, mag well, and 33 round stick with a dawson + 4 pad, "ill drop it no problem, still a race gun, still has a "heads up display" but now you're taking the best of both worlds. a good "fighting pistol that can take tonnes of abuse and giving it every possible advantage over a stock version. hand it will fit in any standard glock holster.
jpoint have a buit in backup if the battery dies
Yah, I know IDPA or IPSC will getcha killed if you use a pistol, bring an M14 (I'm starting to sound like Madness and his comments 2 pages prior..... This is hilarious!
Let me know when to lock things!!Yah, I know IDPA or IPSC will getcha killed if you use a pistol, bring an M14 (I'm starting to sound like Madness and his comments 2 pages prior.....

can't say not on the acquisition board, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that they have a an AR with a "heads up display" for a primary firearm and that the pistol is for back up. I'm sure there is alot of B.S. involved, modified gun voids warranty, don't want to give the impression that the police tricked out the guns to kill better, don't want to spend the time training with 2 sets of pistol sights. maybe the ERT guys don't even know the possibility is out there, you'd have to ask them, then let them try a duty/race gun and ask them if they want one.
oh f**k! great, now that Hungry wants to use an M14 the Norico bashers are going to jump in
. what other forum sect can we get involved with this thread

I read the hundred plus posts steming from this article and I have never before seen such unanimity on CGN. Even the mall ninjas agree that IPSC and Idpa are a game. It gives me hope that there will be peace on earth and good will to all men.
So I guess its settled IPSC and IDPA are alot of fun. I am even surprised that there is no "well my game is better than your game in a hundred some post. WOW.
I shoot IPSC and I like it. If someone local put on an IDPA match I would be there in a heartbeat. Hell, my favorite match of the year is the unsanctioned 3 gun one that my club hosts. In that one it is whatever we can come up with that might be fun. I remember getting about 10 lbs of Potassium nitrate to create smoke just to add a different dynamic to the shooting. I remember calling the florist asking for that. He asked me if it was for tomatoes I told no its for my gunclub. OK here you go. There are advantages to living in rural new brunswick.
