IDPA Will it get you killed?

Ah Sean you promised you were through with this nonsensical thread.:D Hopefully it will die a natural death soon.

Seems like we have two sides to this issue. Those that shoot IDPA and IPSC and recognise it for the sports they both are and those who do "Tactical Training" by taking weekend courses from guys with a sense of humour and an eye for a buck.

Hey we crossed 200 posts. Now can this thread be allowed to die.

Bob
ps Jeez I didn't think shooting Open was that dangerous!;) Pays to know your seller.

You sure want this thread to die, Bob.

Why do you feel the need to put down those who don't have the same reasons for shooting that you do?

Yup.

Stupid question to begin with and hardly relevant in the Canadian context. If you haven't noticed most of the posters on this thread recognise it as such.

Bob,
The context was clear and certainly valid for discussion. I guess you can't have a discussion without getting your panties in a bunch if the topic offends your delicate sensibilities, eh?

Just because you think a topic is "stupid" doesn't mean that it is, or that everyone in the thread agrees with you.

Steve since you have gone to insult and personal. Read one of my first posts on this thread. I simply asked you what you were training for. No respose. Why not?

Tell us how running around with leg holsters and camo pants mimics any kind of daily life in Canada. Do you expect a uprising, a revolution in the streets of Peace River? Perhaps a total breakdown of civil authority in your city? Is it really likely to occur? How does shooting over top of your fellow shooters add to your skill as a pistolero?
Or is it you wish you were on the LA SWAT team or Dallas SWAT and just don't know how to get out of your daytime job? Just do it on another thread. I'll leave it to you to come up with a title.

Let us all know why such a question would be asked in the first place. The guys that shoot IDPA or IPSC do it for sport. It is a contest to see who can perform faster with a handgun under a set of rules. Kinda like PPC shooting on steroids. Nobody I know of plays the games solely with the intent of being able to defend themselves with a handgun.

As more than one shooter has observed, "When the targets start shooting back I'll take up curling".

The answer to the original question was answered about 190 posts ago. Why the thread has not been locked is anyones guess.

You want it locked, alright. I get the last word.

You went personal and insulting about 195 posts ago, Bob, so I can't see how me making my comments could possibly bother you.

Why should you care why I want to have a certain skill set? Does it threaten you? Does it make you scared? I don't have to explain why I take courses any more than you need to explain why you shoot IDPA.

I could make the same arguments about your skill set from IDPA being scary and unnecessary:

Why do you need to shoot from a holster?
Why do you need to draw from concealment?
Why do you need to shoot at silhouette targets?
Are you a wannabe cop?
Do you want to shoot people?

The part that truly puzzles me is how far you're willing to go to alienate part of the handgun shooting community from IDPA. I've never put down IDPA but you feel the need to put down the way I shoot.

Are you not the IDPA Coordinator for western Canada? Does that not mean anything?

Should you not be encouraging all shooters to participate and not mocking those who shoot for reasons you don't like?

I won't be renewing my IDPA membership. It's not because I don't enjoy it. It's not because I'm not good at it. It's not because it's not worthwhile.

It's because of you, Bob.

I will not be associated with any organization that has you in an authority position. I'm tired of your condescending, mocking interaction on the internet as well. I personally know of an IDPA club that was still-born, due to your antics on the internet.

I'm sure you'll have lots of names and insults for me, but I really don't care.

Take care,

Steve

Ex IDPA Safety Officer and member.
