IF a new Grizzly hunt, what gun

.308. Same bullet and caliber I use for everything from deer to moose bear and elk.
Yet to have an animal stand up to a 175grain bullet

If it’s sufficient for bison it’s sufficient for anything that walks this continent.

A well placed bullet will accomplish many things. A big gun and gut shot accomplishes lost game or dead hunters when its Grizzlies. They dont care about calibre and dont take prisoners. From what Ive read. They scare the shiX out of me but theyre a beatiful animal. I would hunt them with the utmost respect, they deserve.

Nice choice. Not enough love for the 8mm IMO. One of these days I'm going to pick up a bigger rifle to compliment my 7mm08, 300mags are pretty common but the 30cal just doesn't do it for me. I've seen a few 325wsm brownings in lefty on the EE over the years, been thinking that might be a good option...

I love the 8mms My 325 actually surprised me a bit. I can drive a 196/200 grain bullet to 3000 fps safely, and I have shot 1¾" groups at 300 meters
with the 196 Norma Oryx. The Elk really hate this combo, :)

there is a pattern in the .323 caliber and those are great choices.

The 8mm Rem Mag needs no introduction. Too bad it is a bit of an orphan. With Reloder 26, I get 3100 [+or- 10]
with the 220 A-Frame. Definitely an effective rifle for bigger, tougher game. Dave.

I'm not sorry Spruster if your butt hurt over my choice of caliber for the hypothetical Grizzly Bear hunt should it ever return to BC.
But, if you look it up there is documented history of a 22 Hornet being used, yup case history sonny boi.
But, from your message to me with the lame attempt of an insult , well lets just say I have met with the owner of that web site and I am welcome there for as long as I care to stay.
Have a nice day.

One of the top 5 polar bears killed was one that choked on an Inuit womans fur mitt. Yup case history sonny boi. Theres also case history of huge bears being killed with .22 rimfires. Dont really think that or a 22 hornet would be my choice but Id love to see you pursue either of em with either of the choices.

maybe you have a new hunting partner and he can back you up with his "22 Hornet " might be he is a green horn and uneducated. I forgot, no Grizz in your parts

I would use my .405 Win. in my deluxe Win. 1895. I would load with solid copper bullets for good penetration.
The original SP bullets open too soon. Elk & Moose kills showed me that.

Which Original SP are you referring to? Hornady factory 300gr ammo? I ask because I have 100 rounds of Hornady factory, but have yet to harvest an animal with them yet. Reloads will be 300gr TSX.

My late father chased a grizzly all over the countryside years ago when he was working in Granisle. He never did get that bear. Even though conventional wisdom is that a 7mm isn't big enough for grizzlies, I'm still taking the rifle that he carried on those hunts.

I think you may want to do some reading on Walter D.M Bell and how small calibers can take large animals. With small calibers, or archery equipment, you can’t take the “only” or “best” shot you have you must wait for and only take those with an extremely high percentage to kill within your equipment’s limitations. Doing so doesn’t limit caliber necessarily, mainly opportunities. Being inside 20yrds on a grizzly only holding a bow and arrow is an exhilarating feeling….

200-220 grains at 3000-3100fps? Yeah that aught to do it!
