My HK P7 M13.......all ready to go!
I carried a S&W Model 10, 2 inches, on belt or under arm (butt front, canted), full lead 158 grains round nose and after, 125 grain half jacket ammo, and a Walther QA-90 on belt, 124 grain, hollow point, full jacketed ammo.
You have to consider altogether a form of carrying comfort and "packed wallop" since it is a personal defense mean and not offensive, meant to stop any threat to you immediately.
You will carry under ample clothing during hot summer time or heavy clothing during winter.
The access of the gun will have to be easy and fast....your call on the holster you will use.
The combo above offers , in my opinion, the best of both worlds, with a heavy hollow point ammo.
Just for the discussion, one of my men shot a man at 7 yards distance; the bullet, 158 grains, 38 special half jacket, hit (front to rear) the shoulder plate and exited under it, that means the suspect absorbed the full schock of the impact.
I asked my man if the suspect still was a threat and he answered yes.
I measured the projectile : opened to 10mm.
So a minor mushrooming at the best distance and a maximum schock when a flat bone was hit.
Hence, the importance of the ammo you will use.
