If only 1 pistol ? Hammer VS Striker

Hammer for only one reason....it fires every ammo I have fed it through including those thick Russian primers. Not so with striker fired.

Too many options to choose from. Older striker fired pistol vs a modern hammer fired. All metal striker fired vs polymer frame hammer fired.......so many combinations possible.
I personally could never choose just one.

simple answer: most proven and reliable action.
and I understand that to be the striker fired variation..

That isn't always true. I've had FTE's with Glock 19 with a certain batch of Fiocchi 9mm ammo. My PPQ Navy with superstrong recoil spring sometimes doesn't function with weaker ammo that my Sig P239 and HK p2000 (both hammer) eat up with no problems.

I've have a "striker fired" High Standard .22 and had an old .32 FN. The FN was a POS, the High Standard is a great shooter. Neither have decockers.

I have a 1911 and a CZ85 clone, both hammer fired. I love both. Hammer is a highly visible cocking indicator, half #### on both and positive safety on both are great. A hammer allows de-cocking.

While I have never had a striker fired pistol with a de-cocker, I like the idea.

I believe that a hammer fired pistol is inherently safer; I think a hammer fired pistol with a de-cocker would be the ultimate, but then it's an extra lever. CZ built them, Sig Sauer has them, others may too.

More important, find a pistol that suits you, learn to use it safely and properly, and shoot the heck out of it!

I'll bite, care to elaborate on that??

If I could only have 1: in Canada a 1911 since we can't cc and are limited to 10 rounds anyways, why not enjoy the awsome trigger, thin frame and good looks. In the US any decent semi compact poly 9 striker fired that had the highest capacity, lightest weight and concealed well. But, preference is personal, and what is best is subjective(except 1911 triggers, a bad 1911 trigger is still better than a good striker fired trigger), and you have to find what you like.

Hammer!

Now I want to watch it again LOL

OK....asked a question under another thread and got some great answers so lets ask the real question to get the real answers...

If you were only allowed to own one pistol....would it be a hammer or striker pistol???????

Personally I lean towards the Hammer....JMHO

Depends on the purpose. If it was for concealed carry. Then a glock 19. Striker fired rules. If its for hunting or in the bush for protection then a hammer fired revolver. Both are next to impossible to do in Canada. If i lived in the USA in lets say Tennessee. Then id have to go with a striker fired. Maybe 10mm to cover both areas.
