If you could only have one 30cal

Of the 30 cal rifles I own (but never have used), I would keep a really nice Savage American Classic .308. If I were to stretch the .308 a bit, I would likely keep a sporter .303 British No.4.

Lee metford carbine in 303 british

Id use it for hunting for any non flying animal and also carring in the wood while hiking and for nusances animals on my hobby farm

So it's lunch time and you need to clear your rifle before soup and a sandwich or maybe to get into a boat or to cross a fence. Is emptying your tube mag into your hat by cycling all the rounds behind a cocked hammer what anyone would describe as a practical rifle? Then lunch is done or you've crossed the fence or left the boat and you feed all those marred up bullets back into the tube for the 10th time. That doesn't seem like a good balance of tradition and practicality to me. My .30 cal has a box mag but I'd be ok with a blind mag or a rotary mag, anything other than a tube mag. 30.06 A-bolt gold medallion is my go-to but there are numerous others I would consider.

I currently have rifles in only one 30 caliber cartridge, the 30-30. But that would not be my choice and being that GMC is asking for only one rifle, for me it would be a BLR 81 in 308. All the attributes that I require in a hunting rifle.
Detachable magazine, short & not to bad as far as weight goes, Lever action, Scope and Iron sights, and ammo that would not break the bank.
I think I am trying to talk myself into looking for one again.

I have 3 .30 cal rifles, .308,30-06,300 and they all have their practicalities but I would go middle of the road and stick with the ol -06. I hunt bc and Alberta and it’s my go to for the most part
