if you could only have one...

Really? The trojan over the lawman? Lawman sucks that bad?

It's not a question of "suck"... The Trojan has a fantastic set of features and is a great platform for building at a reasonable price. The Lawman is a good gun, but more expensive than the Trojan for, what I consider to be, fewer features (yes, the Lawman has a forged frame and better checkering on the front strap). The Trojan's slide is cut for a proper adjustable rear sight, whereas the Lawman has the Novak style adjustable sight/Novak rear cut. (I've got the Novak adjustable on my Sentinel Premier and it's coming off as soon as my Warren Tactical rear sight arrives.). Adjustable sights are, IMHO, a necessity on a 1911 - unless you are building a "fighting 1911". As the OP's point was "choose only one" 1911, I would be picking the 1911 with adjustable sights.

So why is the DW at the same level as the Trojan? Again, if I could only choose one 1911, I'd pick something quality and build upon that. Would the DW slide get cut for an adjustable rear sight? Very likely.

With the exception of the DVC, most of the ignition parts of all of the guns on the list would likely get an upgrade as well. That's another reason to pick a gun like the Trojan - lower cost of entry leaves some room for parts upgrades.
