Care to offer some actual insight based on your experiences?
Your comments so far have been less than constructive and just make you sound like a sanctimonious snob to be honest. Jeering people for not having the ‘best’ taste in barrels?
If there’s something you know then please share. There’s something to be said for offering advice/recommendations rather than just putting people down..

I have an M96, a M38 in original Military configuration, and a Zastava sporter in 6.5; I love them all! My 96 is a 1900 Obendorf, most amazing trigger for a military configuration rifle I have ever used. You can't go wrong.

Just remember, the M18 is not what we have came to know as a Mauser, it is another budget rifle with lots of plastic. They still build the 98, but the price is out in the weeds.

Oh, I hear ya! With price out to lunch, it's the budget option...

Just a couple years ago I purchased a brand new Tikka T3x in 300wsm for $875, but after taxes this "what would you buy" limit of $1000 is out of gas... You still need rings & a scope...

IIRC my 300wsm total was: $875, $150 Leupold Backcountry rings & a $349 Bushnell Elite 4500 2.5-10x40 for around $1375 plus tax...

Enough has been offered for most to figure it out.
No one was jeered for “not having the best taste in barrels”. Not even close. Those words were certainly not used.
The discussions regarding the barrels in question are not new. in fact, there is a real slugfest of a thread still on this forum dating back to 2015. It’s worth a find, and a thorough read.
Those that relentlessly flog another’s substandard product (and certainly not judged to be so by only one) usually have a reason for it….Those reasons were discussed here and elsewhere as well.

You can't count taxes, the government is going to get that out of you, one way or the other. Might as well be something you want. LOL

Great trade.

I have an sks in the safe but it was a gift to me from my uncle and I don’t sell guns that have come from family. I would be inclined to get a CVA scout takedown in something like .44mag mentioned above or 4570. Otherwise there was a few of 700 sps varmint on GP from the same seller a little while ago for $600. I scooped the .243 and am turning it into my intro to long range shooting rig.

I had a CVA single shot in .223. Second only to the Mini 14 I once owned it was the second worst rifle I ever owned. Inaccurate, front heavy, and recoiled twice as much as a .223 should with both American eagle and Tula. The liquored Tula steel cases glued themselves in the chamber and would not extract without a pocket knife. I sent it down the road after one range trip. 6" groups at 100 yards. Considering the quality of the ammo, that is about 3" bigger than expected. Last CVA and last .223 I will ever own.
 
Just did spend $1,000 on a new coyote gun. Ruger American Gen 2 in 5.56. Have so many rings and scopes that putting on optics wasn’t a problem or a financial consideration. It’s light weight, fairly accurate and can handle my crates of ammo that have just been sitting around :)
