If you're out on crown land camping, what can you kill?

You can kill anything that threatens your life. (animals)

Other then that you will need a hunting license for most things and you have to follow rules depending on the area you’re located in. Invasive species can be killed year round by anyone almost anywhere. Most National parks wont allow you to have a firearm outside of a case but if a bear was say mauling someone you grabbed it then shot the bear you most likely wouldn't be charged its just common sense. Under the charter everyone has the right to life so if something is attacking (animal) you can kill it if you shoot something and they figure it wasn't defense you could face some charges its on a case by case biases. How you talk to the conversation officer can make a huge difference. Good day this is what happened if you fired a warning shot or not if the animal made contact with you or someone else how it approached ect.

That is because they're consider pests. Now if your in a park and do it you could get in trouble because I know in BC you have to be the land owner or doing it on there behalf to remove pest animals so you cant go into a park were you can normaly hunt and start shooting everything unless your setup for hunting tags what ever else is required. So in a park there are seasons but on private land ie farms there arn't

isn't it better to learn through community, and get some other people involved in information sharing? :)

It is better to read the actual regulations yourself, then ask for clarification on specific points, than it is to simply ask for other people's interpretations of the regulations without reading them yourself first. Internet interpretations, are often incorrect, not nearly as reliable as reading the actual regulations.
 
But then I would never have learned that in Alberta no hunting license is needed for many small game animals and they can be hunted year round.

If you read the regulations, you would know which animals are considered game animals, and require licenses to hunt, and have specific seasons. The regulations also specify certain species that can be hunted without a license anytime. If you also read the trapping regulations, you will find out which animals are controlled under the trapping regulations. Just from reading the posts in this thread, you still don't know exactly which animals you can shoot year round without a license, and which animals have seasons and require a license. If you see a weasel, can you shoot it in Alberta? How about a squirrel? How about a marten?

I think i'm smart enough not to take anything here verbatim.
But it benefits all of you to refresh your memories, trade barbs, correct mistakes, compare jurisdictions, help a new guy out, as much as it helps me to see the interpretations, hear about experiences, and get guidance from more experienced people to supply context as I read the regs :)

Its never wrong to ask questions. Especially ones with real bearing and relevance like this.

My neighbour had the best answer.. he's like "yeah once youre out on crown land you can shoot whatever as long as its not big game, give'r!"

I agree with that.. there are many guys on here that know their stuff (you can usually tell - I respect many here) and can help to interpret much of the information that can be tricky to navigate through at times

Seeing as how this was posted in the rimfire forum, shouldn't your opening post have at least mentioned rimfire firearms?
As for being helpful, I posted a link to the regulations in the hope that you would at least make some effort to learn the answer to the question that you posted.

That's fair enough, they are considered pests, but skunks, porcupines and such? Maybe I just don't believe in killing something just for the hell of it if it's not edible or causing damage to livestock/crops.
