IGA Backpaker Pistol Grip

Yep. I've seen the "pistol" version of gun (I have a backpacker myself). The only difference is the pistol has a pistol grip, the shotgun has a stock.

Goddamn! I Had a pic too. I'll try to dig it up again. I've seen one at a gun shop I'm going to tomorrow, if they still have it I'll try to get a pic.

Aparintly the first ones made were the pistol .410's. But they weren't a strong seller so, the company took the design, replaced the grip with a stock and boom...big seller aparintly. Good with slugs, useless with shot.

Dug it up! I've added a pic of my backpacker for comparison. As for the lever in front of the trigger guard, it opends the barrel. Later backpackers had the barrel release located somewhere elese (on top?) and also had an added safty lock.

you can't make the gun less then 26" it would become prohib...

Scott is correct on this.

If you added the pistol grip I believe that would make it a prohib and since it was not registered as a prohib would be subject to confiscation and charges laid.....

If you bought it as a registered restricted pistol ,it wouldn't be prohibited but you could only shoot it at the range. But as everyone has said DON'T SHORTEN IT PAST 26 in., because your breaking the regulations .

Thanks for info guys, ljungman is right about it being lousy with birdshot, but it is a cool little unit just the same.
I don't imagine they will be available for much longer with all whinning going on.

Thanks for the info guys, ljungman is right about it being useless with birdshot. My model breaks open barrel, by sliding whole trigger guard rearward. Great for fishing or camping trips for those up close and personel moments outside your tent.

Yep, it breaks by squeezing up/back on the trigger guard. When I first got mine I flipped it around in my hands a few times thinking, "Wtf? How does this break?" :p

The trigger guard! That's right. I knew the newer ones were diffrent than mine but could not remember how they opened. I don't see the point of the saftey they put on the trigger guard/lever ones. I mean, it's a single shot.

Substitute for bear repellent? (with 3"slug) while I am scouting for deer.
Or more likely sitting in my cabinet keeping my other useless guns company.

My buddy has the restricted (pistol) version.

I had a Backpacker, plan to get another one sometime. They shoot High (or low, can't remember) but I was going to compensate for that by adding a reddot. I took mine to the skeet club one day and the onl;y way I could hit anything was by extending my arm and shooting one handed. I think it has mostly to do with the taper of the bbl and the short sighting plane. A higher bead would probably work well.
