A used leupold fire dot would fit your budget.
I just ordered a bushnell forge series 1-8 with a German 4 style reticle and illuminated center dot.
It was on sale for $525 at northpro so I thought I'd check it out.
It's heavier then the leupold low power variables and has 34mm tube and supposedly decent glass.
We will see...

Definitely won’t go wrong with Leupold. My first was a simple 4 x which is perfect for hunting in timber
i’m interested in what’s available in low power variable illuminated hunting scopes. Has anybody got recommendations? I’d like to keep it below $800.
i am looking for one to, what about vortex crossfire ii v-brite 1-4x24
I highly recommend the Leupold VXR 2-7x33. I don't know the price, I managed to find an excellent used one fairly cheap.
Being able to go to 2 power is really nice and you don't really need more than 7...
If you can find one, I highly suggest Zeiss Conquest DL 2-8x42 or 1.5-6x36mm. It has a very fine and bright dot for day and dusk (reticle 60 wich is like German #4 but illuminated), and has Lotutec hydrophobic coating. It is made in Germany. Best scope I had for the price (it is discountinued, so you may find one around your budget or get a used one).
