Im a lefty and want a shot gun..

I'm a Lefty here and have a couple Rem.870's, no problems at all. As well I shoot Semi-Auto rifles with no problems. don't waste your money on a lefty shotgun. The only problem I have found with my 870's is sometimes my hand will engauge the safety switch during firing, don't now if it can be switched around but really that's the only problem, most times the first slug hits the mark anyways.

I am left handed. I find tang safeties the easiest, after years with tang safeties. I have a left handed 11-87 that I'm thinking of listing but no slug barrel. I had a left hand safety for my Winchester 1300 and that was fine. My 870 and 1100 I have difficulty with the safeties in hunting situations, just not as quick as either of the other ways.
I never notice the which way the casing comes out with the shotguns. But the casings coming out of a Browning BAR are hot when they hit your cheek.
I am not certain but I believe the Ithaca 37 had a push button safety too and not sure if it was reversable. I think the ambidextrous safety is more important than the ejection side.

I am right handed and I have shot left handed rifles and shot guns. The last experience was with a SBE2 lefty on skeet and sporting clays. It is no big deal!

I am a lefty when it comes to shotguns. Any of the Mossbergs are great as they have a tang safety. Also keep in mind that if you can get your hands on an Ithaca 37 - you can swap out the right handed safety for a left handed one fairly easily. For what it is worth I picked up the Savage 350 (an Ithaca 37 knock-off) and for the money spent am happy with it so far.

The Rem. 870 and the "Mossberg" 500. Some of you guy's act like these are the only Shotguns on the market. I guess it's because they are "cheap". Have a look around. There have been many advancements since 1950.

That's easy for someone who has a thousand dollars to drop on a 12 gauge to say.

For the price, the Rem. 870 and Mossberg 500 offer lots of bang for your buck. That way, fellows like myself can spend more money on practice ammo, rather than working to pay off the gun. Just yesterday, I put over 100 rounds through my 500 on the trap field, without one failure of any kind. (Firearm, not shooter.:p) I'll use the same gun for ducks and rabbits in the fall.

Lefty here too. Owned most types by now. Favorite pump by a mile was a Browning BPS Upland. I wouldn't know what to do with a lefty 870! Too used to normal ones now. I currently have both Mossy's and 870's. Cheap and fun.

For someone starting out that just wants one decent shotgun to use until they can afford more I'd buy that BPS all over again. Gotta find a new one.........

Shooting a standard Rem 870, left, has never presented any kind of issue for me. You won't need speed shooting for deer hunting anyway.
"...we dominate the world..." That's why so much backwards stuff goes on. snicker.

I have an 870 wingmaster right hand and I shoot left. I replaced the safety button with an Uncle Mikes left hand button. I don't know if they are still made, but easy to install.

I am a lefty and shot my friends 870 express this past weekend without any issues of shells flying in my face. The safety is a little awkward but the thumb safety on the 500's would easily fix that issue. If you can try out a couple different shotguns I suggest that. Nothing wrong with a fair priced gun, with the money saved buy some ammo and go shoot the thing... my 0.02

You can buy a used O/U shotgun from Tradeex. They have quite a few different models to choose from. Even a few Berettas. No shells flying pass your face either. I know that they can't be converted to a tactical shotgun but for upland bird hunting or general shooting there perfect for that.

I don't understand the big issue of shooting lefty in a right handed world!
I have shot right handed FN's, MP5's, Galils, SMG's, Shotguns, Mini 14's, SKS, CZ858, AR-15, numerous other bolt guns, pumps and semis, handguns... all without issue.

The only firearm that is NOT lefty friendly is the Tavor, which will throw hot brass off your chin unless you switch the ejection port to left.

I'm a lefty and I have a Mossberg 500 I've used for over 20 years that is right handed.
I shoot skeet with it as well. Not a problem with shells ejecting past my face. It definitely won't be an issue deer hunting. I've tried remingtons and definitely the tang safety of the mossberg is the way to go to get up quick if you have a deer jump up on a trail. Stick to a tang safties right handed shotgun and you'll be fine.

I am looking for a shotgun for deer season up here in Ontario. Problem is I am a lefty!

I'm sorry, where is the problem here?

Man, do I ever wish I could force a day of shooting leftie-guns on right-handed people who just say "get over it, we dominate the world."

I am as left handed as it is possible to be. Get over it, it is a right handed world. Adapt and overcome, it isn't exactly all that difficult.

I have NEVER owned a left handed gun. I have shot every kind of firearm there is and shot competitively etc etc all with right handed guns. But then I didn't whine about how cold and cruel the right handed majority is and just got on with learning how to manipulate the firearm I had.

An 870 is hardly a piece of junk. FWIW, the 870s are made in the USA and have been around since 1950. That is 27 years longer than the BPS which has never been made in North America.

If the BPS is such a "Quality for the rest of Time" piece of kit why don't Police Departments and military use it?

It's fine and good that you like the BPS but that doesn't make every other make/model junk.

Even the Mossberg 500 which has been around since 1961 and can be bought new for about half that of a BPS is standing the test of time and is a fine firearm.

The express has not been around for fifty years. It is a pile of rough, unfinished, shell sticking junk. Get a browning BPS you won't be sorry.
