Im Broke AR build.

That's a nice build, but I think it's hardly an "I'm broke" build.

Personally, I think a stock Norinco CQ, with all airsoft parts bought on DX.com would be an "I'm broke" build.

$700 for the rifle (with 2 mags)
$30 for this aluminium quad rail (it drops right in - about 500 rounds through mine, no issue) dx.com/p/ar-fishbone-style-steel-handguard-gun-cover-quad-rail-mount-system-for-m4-m16-black-197571
$18 for this CTR stock (dx.com/p/rugged-ctr-stock-for-m4-m16-black-127741) (Optional)
$17 for a pair of knock off MBUS (only would need the rear site, mine worked well for a few thousand rounds, but I over tightened the nut on it one time, and it broke) (dx.com/p/mbus-front-rear-back-up-sight-set-black-185291) (Optional)

Anything else?

With this setup, you're in at $800 with a few spare parts with a comparable setup... and you can buy 1600 rounds of Norinco .223 to try to break it all.

There is a fine line between Broke and just plain cheap. Ill spend the extra 200$ any day not to buy knock off crap...

Well truthfully, the only non-knock off thing I have is my Trijicon Accupoint 1-4 - which cost more than the gun it's mounted on.

I have no problem with being cheap - I placed 3rd out of 40 at my club's last 100 yard centre fire match using my "knock off crap" 'rinco... It was a just fun match (and a good friend of mine who ALWAYS whoops my butt didn't enter) - but my Deal Extreme special held it's own (I think it was the scope - but even then, my 50 yard zero was surprisingly far off at 100 yards).

I probably would have placed first had I entered my target shot with an 858 with an even more ghetto setup with DX knock off gear... but I was shooting for fun at that point.

This was the 858 build (before I lost the rifle in an unfortunate bocce ball accident) - $50 Bushnell long eye relief scope clamped onto the barrel with one of these:
dx.com/p/25mm-gun-mount-holder-clip-clamp-for-flashlight-black-134370

Prone unsupported, I think I had a 4" 10 round group with both rifles... just my CQ was 3" left, 2" low, while the 858 was bang on.

I have a couple TRS-25 , great red dot for the money. Sold my Sparc.
I bought a yankeehill picatinny rail spacer from Fabsports for one of mine.

So I know you wanted to build your own thing, but why didnt you just go with a Core 15 rifle?

What fun would that be... And the cheaper ones dont even come with a rail.... So no savings....

And chalkriver , I did look at The YHM but I dont think they make one high enough for a lower 1/3 co-witness

harbl_the_cat I get it you like Deal Extreme I don't so please stop posting that crap...

Very well, my apologies for the trolling :p

I will say even though your committed on the TRS25, if you find you're looking for an inexpensive red dot, try to find an Ultradot red dot.

They're not a small, micro red dot, but they are quite small, inexpensive, and with any high mounted scope rings, you can get a perfect co-witness with most AR back up sights. Japanese made with a lifetime warranty.

I bought 2 a few years ago and have run them on my 858's, AR15's, SU16's, and 10/22's and just love them to pieces. I can't find them anywhere anymore unfortunately and the dealer I bought them from in the States doesn't ship to Canada anymore.

At the time, it was a toss up for me between the TRS25 and the Ultradot, and the Ultradot won.

yes, a bit more money you have invested in the norc + extras, you could have built a solid fully non Chinese rifle that is not registered as a norinco

great looking rifle though
first off, thanks...

I have plenty of those... H&K, LMT, Noveske, DD,and Colt to name a few, and I still enjoy shooting the crap outta my Norinco... Is it really that terrible to have a rifle that was not Made in the USA? I really don't care what name is on the rifle as long as it does it's job well. As for the question of being solid, there are several Norinco owners here that can attest to the fact that they are just as robust as most of the AR's on the market, and you can't beat the price.. Take away the light, BUIS, and Optic, I have $1300 in this rifle, I would love to see you build me a better rifle for that price...

go ahead...DO IT!!

if im not mistaken, DILLIGAF already did what you are asking for $1300 without a china part...

and you have an HK, LMT, Noveske, DD, AND a colt, but you shoot a norinco?? confused

here is my aero precision AR.... it is all norinco except the magpul stuff, matech sight, and the HD7... cost: $750 shipped to my door from EE (it was a total steal) - goes bang everytime, no complaints at all

here it is next to the norinco 10.5" shorty I had:

and here is my 7.62x39 build I did from scratch - $750 not counting scope and PEPR, half new half used parts from EE (I got many of these parts at a great price - likely will not be able to do it this cheap again)
7.62%20AR%20done%20(2).JPG

so for $1500 I have 2 AR's........

norcs are good if you plan to just leave them alone as is

not the best platform to start building from really

I am getting an AR soon and am thinking about building one. The main thing I want to change first is the butt stock and the hand guard. Norinco is probably the cheapest, but I heard its not true mil-spec thus may have problems with after market parts. Like you said, it is not the best platform to start building from. That being said, which AR will you recommend getting and change out the parts I want?? Or will you recommend me build one from scratch??
