I'm confused...for once I'm satisfied with the hunting cartridges I own!?!?!

It comes and goes with me. here in NB you need a .224 or smaller for varmint.
.22-250 ( varmint )
.7mm-08 ( kids deer / bear gun)..and .284 bullets
.7mm rem mag ( Moose , deer , bear ) .284 bullets
You could dump the 7Mag and still want for nothing here in NB. I'd use the 7/08 for deer anyways and moose tags here are few and far between.

It's funny but, despite the fact that i have 410,28g,12g,.22lr,22wmr,.204r,.30/30,.300sav,243,270 and a couple of .30-06, i can't help thinking there are a few missing. lol i might have to do something about the fact that i've never had a .308 or a .20 g pump combo.

I have to admit that I'm pretty much satisfied with my center fire hunting rifles as well. The only one I want yet is a .35 Whelen. I haven't decided if I'm going to build myself one on a M98 or buy a Ruger stainless Hawkeye but I need a .358 cal. Everything I have was carefully chosen for condition or configuration and is not likely to be going any where any time soon.

.223
.243-06 AI
.257 Roberts
6.5x55
.270 Win.
Two 7x57's
7x64 Brenneke
Two .308 Win's
Two .30-06's
8x57
8x64 Brenneke
.338 Federal
9.3x62
.375 H&H
.416 Ruger
.45-70

Because of this thread I have come to the conclusion that I may need a .223 rifle for plinking...and or a .308. ;)

Damn you all. :p

Perhaps some fellow nutter that is a MD could do a forum consultation. Maybe a exorcism. If you have a local nutter friend, perhaps they could come over and intentionally set all the scopes off zero. Someone else may help, i am all out of suggestions. Hope this isnt a catchy disease....leaving just in case.

I'm kind of naive about such subtle undertones. Given your apparent expertise in such conversational exchanges, maybe you could fill me in.

I could have said "That's what she said," but thought it might get lost... don't give it a second thought... even though I'm an old dude, I work in an environment that is rife with young folk and pop culture, you become hyper-sensitive to the subtle nuances of ###ual innuendo... good shooting...er, bullets... er, lead...

Did some work a while back at a guy's home installing a new staircase I had built. He is a hunter with his own back country canoe access camp and has taken quite a few deer and moose thru the years. I saw his old school gun cabinet with an glass door where I was working that allowed me a look at his shooters - one scoped 30-06 bolt, one pump 12 gauge, one cooey 22 - I believe that was it. I must admit that I kind of admired the simplicity and focus. However he was no "gun nut" - obviously. Be difficult for me and most here to be so Spartan.

A fella might think that C-FBMI might be satisfied with his cartridge selection, but not our pal Doug. Despite having guns for pretty much every cartridge ever chambered in a hunting rifle (several examples in some cases) and despite stating his strong preference for the .300 and .340 Weatherbys, now he's taken to inventing his own.

As for me, every now and then I'm tempted to dump all my junk, and just maintain a mountain of components for my .30/06. But the feeling never lasts .

lol! SuperCub, "nicely balanced package"! As hoytcanon suggests, you might wanna rethink saying that to a dude! It would be quite fitting saying it to a lady, though!:p

Well StevieK, as this disease progresses, and it will, you will begin to hallucinate that there are perceived holes that need filling, for perceived reasons that are totally beyond your ability to explain to your spouse. (Perhaps you stumbled upon a thread by an idiot who firmly has himself convinced the shooting world needs a 23 caliber?) Then as the disease worsens you will find yourself wanting a collection of a certain type of firearm, for no good reason what-so-ever........old Winchester leverguns, for example, or Handi rifles in every incarnation of the 308 case, or every caliber the 700 Classic was offered in etc....etc....etc. Then as your age and financial security increase, you may start to dream of hunting weird and exotic animals on other continents and as you look at your collection of calibers, you realize you don't have the perfect caliber for that animal (which of course you do).....POOF, 2 or 3 more calibers arrive and you start working up loads for them to get the perfect rifle for the "Short eared long horned Garsamit", convincing yourself that you will sell the other two once you decide............you never do.
Then the heavy dangerous game bug bites and of course you don't have the perfect caliber for that game, so now you delve into the whole new world from 40 caliber and up. As you start to look into heavies you realize that there are 404s, 416s, 458s, 475s, 500s, 505s right up to 585s in bolt guns, but wait maybe a classic double rifle is the right way to go and you start again at .400 right up through the 700 NE (if you have attained significant financial success).
Ah, but it's not done with you yet, as you now decide you should delve into some different disciplines of this disease......F-class, Cowboy Action Shooting, benchrest, 1000 mtr, 50 BMG...........and you need a whole 'nother raft of rifles/handguns and gear to be competitive, and there goes another few grand down the tube......
The prognosis is death, for this disease..........with significantly less money than you would have died with otherwise. There is no cure, except possibly to marry a truly evil women who HATES, and I mean absolutely detests firearms, and who forces you to move to Toronto or Vancouver and take up art gallery, opera and zoo viewing instead. It has been known to cure this disease in some men, however it is not guaranteed and sometimes all it does, is take all your money several years down the road and you find yourself all alone, wanting guns even worse than ever, but now you have no money to feed your addiction................but wait "I have 150 bucks for that cute little .22 in that shop, if I walk to work for a month".............and your addiction starts all over again.

I'm hoping a little insight into my life might "scare you straight" (in a gun addiction context not ###ual), but I'm not holding my breath..............

The 300 WM is SPF and I would be hard pressed to consider something more.
Trying to get two target/BR 22's to keep getting smaller groups occupies a the better part of my time.
Still enjoy going to work the odd day, hunting in the fall, tripping off to the range, volunteering, reloading, visiting with the grand kids, getting the trailer out, slinging a few arrows, a bit of competition, even cutting the lawn, and chasing a small white ball on what some might consider the waste of a perfectly good rifle range.
Just being able to get out and enjoy the surroundings will have to suffice but a ten gun stable adds to the enjoyment.

With me it's a "family" thing. When all this nonsense started I liked the Winchester Mag family so I acquire 264,300 338 and 458 Win Mags. Then we move To Norma Mag family, here comes 7x61, 308, and 358 Normas, then on to the Weatherby family, 240, 257, 300, 340 and 375 plus a wildcat 6.5x300. Next was BARs 308, 7 Rem Mag, 300 & 338 Win Mags. Hopefully I'm over this phase of my life because I'm running out of space, cash and birthdays.
