I'm looking into the VZ 58. Why do you like/dislike it?

A 10 round pistol b.w mag that will hold 15 223 in say a non restricted tavor or apc would be cool.hmmm now I really understand!!!

A 10-round pistol BW pistol magazine would likely hold 30 rounds of 223. The current 5-round BW rifle mags will hold 15 rounds although that last round will be a tight fit and may not feed reliably.

Personally I don't understand the big deal with only 5 rnd mags!!!!a difference of 5 rnds considering we're only using them for fun really ain't much of a bummer. Now if we were using them for life or death well then ......different story.
The same for no last round hold open !!!! Big whoop.
But that's just me.

No last round hold open? Say what?
Something wrong with your gun then.

Bought one of the original CZH 2003's from the first shipment in Canada, brought in by Marstar in 2005. Added accessories over the next year or two, awesome rifle and love the limited function selector switch. Paid $595 plus tax and it is the only rifle in my collection which I will never consider selling.

A cz858 is great if the gremlin is fixed.

Ive owned plenty of 858s over the years and never encountered that " Gremlin " Im starting to think its just something that got blown out of proportion buy the internet and the guys that wanted to sell Tabbed carriers... lol...

I've seen it, and I've seen it fixed, so it ain't no unicorn.

I've had two and never seen it either. Was there a particular year of manufacture that it was most prevalent in?

I got 2 cz858 and my first I never had the problem but every time someone else would try it they would get the gremlins. I think it more have to deal how you hold the rifle and how deep you hold the trigger

I bought my CZ 858 back when they were $699 and came with 4 magazines, a mag pouch, a bayonet, and a cleaning kit.

It's an accurate enough rifle, and since mine has the 19" barrel, it's non-restricted (until the Lieberals f@ck things up again). It shoots cheap surplus ammo and it's also been reliable as a claw hammer. No, mine doesn't have the "gremlin".

I had an 858 and I got it when they were 800 bucks out the door. I regret selling it... I may buy another if the price is right. Nothing bad to say about it. 5 round mags are not a fault of the design, so my complaint is not with CZ on this issue.

With the folding stock I used to sling it over my shoulder and go dirtbiking. Good times.

I suppose my only complaint is that it will not use AK magazines. That's why I got an SKS-D.

Ak mags are hard to find in Canada, they don't have the bolt hold open feature either which is a deal breaker for me.

as for the 58 being a worthwhile rifle to get, absolutely, it's a fantastic reliable and simple rifle. My only complaint is the price, 1300+ is way too much to pay for something that shoots 7.62x39 surplus and goes bang 5 times a mag, and looks like a tire iron covered in sewer paint and wood chips. at 700-1000 it's a no brainer. But what they're going for now why not stretch out a little more and get A tavor or xcr

Lots of rounds through mine and no issues at all.
Yes they have gone up in price but well worth it, you will not be disappointed.

I really don't like the tiny original style pistol grip, awkward stocks or skinny forend, nor the fact that the forend heats up so quickly.

Other that they're alright, but once you've swapped out the factory furniture they're getting into the pricepoint where you might as well start looking at something a bit nicer to begin with.
