Do you think you might ream it to 257AI at some point? From what I have heard that is one of the better Ackleys.

Nice rifle, everyone 'needs' a 1/4 bore.

Why did you choose the 257 Rob. instead of the Wtby? or 25-06?

It is a LA, but the bbl is 23".

OAL is 2.87". Not quite out to the lands. I'm going to wait for the hunting bullets before I get into fine tuning. I asked Beven for a 3.00" OAL throat

I might do that some day down the road. The improved is pretty close to a 25/06, but I'm not sure that I need that extra velocity here in NB. If I did, I would probably just get a .270

I think I'm going to leave the stainless as is. I kinda like the SS bbl with the blued reciever. :)

I have a Browning FN Safari in 300H&H in the works right now. Is that a good enough "nice" gun for ya?

Does Heym make a pumpgun? :D If they made a full stock rifle, would it be called a Heymlicher?? :D

I like the older, classic, calibers and don't really need the extra horsepower, and the 257R was a good fit for the LA Mountain Rifle.

Also, I had unused dies in 257R. :D

Nice rifle! Just perfect. I also love those older Balvars, great scopes. Especially the 1.5-6 and the 2-8 compact.

Re the Ackley, you've seen pics of my old M70 257 Roberts AI. If I had my choice, it would be a straight Roberts. I wouldn't change a thing with your rifle.
