I'm Thinking About Buying This 9mm

I am thinking of buying this Smith & Wesson SD9VE 9mm, I have a couple
of .22's now and wanted something a bit larger that won't break the bank for
ammo and they are not a lot of $$$ to buy.

I was wondering how easy or hard to clean, how good or bad they are to shoot
and also if they are fairly accurate when it comes to hitting the target?

I handled one as well, never fired one, and didn't think it was too impressive. Trigger felt pretty terrible. For not a lot more you could find a M&P 9mm on the EE. I have an M&P in 45 and would recommend one in any caliber.

M&P is a much better gun. I've shot a lot of rounds through M&Ps.
If I were starting out, looking for a 9, I would consider a Sig P320, probably a 320RX. But their triggers tend to be heavy, heavy enough that I have to be very conscious of trigger control.
A clean used M&P would be a much better choice than the other Smith. I wouldn't worry about round count. The M&Ps I've used have all been very experienced, thousands of rounds, and shoot just fine.

The Jericho 941 is another great choice for not much more
The sd9ve has a very heavy trigger. There's some play in the slide to frame fit. They do shoot Ok once you get used to the trigger
There are aftermarket triggers and springs for them

Speaking quite bluntly, the trigger bites. It takes all my concentration to shoot that thing as good as my Shadow, doing slow fire.

If you can shoot that gun well, you can shoot anything. So it has that going for it, as a training gun. lol!

There is a handful of 9mm that is better than the sd9v and costs less money. The pistol that comes to mind at the moment are the Zastava Tokerav m70a, Norinco p226, Norinco 1911 or on the used market, a ruger sr9 or Star Super b.

Go with a used M&P 9MM FS. You can get a Gen 1 used in a range kit package for around $550 on the EE. Best buy out there right now. Even the latest generation is not much more.

Girsan and Canik offer real value as well. Not real sure on the service end of things which is something you get with the M&P.

I would not go near a Tok. Other than for plinking with cheap ammo the gun is really just a boat anchor/door stop. Poor ergos and poor sights with snappy recoil. About the only thing going for it is it is either an inexpensive pistol or a very expensive piece of pipe.

I have 3k rounds through my walther ppx, mainly idpa. Never had an issue, never had a FTF, FTE or any other issue. Trigger is good for a stock unit. Cheap used range kits on the EE now.
For ####s and giggles I stopped cleaning it at about 1k, still going strong.

Ruger 9E (It's a "no frills" SR9).

It's cheap, accurate and the stock trigger is excellent. There is little difference between it and the SR9 and the differences that exist don't affect performance.

So if you're wanting actual info on the gun and its performance, search the forum for more info. This has been discussed a lot, only this thread has all the poo-pooers responding :) Keep in mind it has a purposely built heavy trigger for what it was designed. A Self Defense gun which of course means nothing in Canada. Are there better guns? Certainly, according to personal opinions, but do some more research before binning the idea. Aside from the purposely built heavy trigger, the gun has better than average ergonomics and is a great shooter. Try to find one you can actually shoot and judge for yourself.

A friend of mine purchased one, and it is, well, built to a price. It is thin, very economically made and is really a 'house' gun for an American who does not want a gun but thinks they better have one. That is the market I think it was designed for.

If you want to enjoy the ownership of a pistol, go to the range and develop your skills, this is not the gun for you.

Buy a previously loved safe queen and have a real pistol. (I'm biased but a IMI Baby Eagle Range Kit previously owned is the best value for the dollar I think you can have.)

Apart from the logo, its not the best available.
