I'm torn over the FX9

The Beretta Storm is/was the best PCC carbine. Great balance, easily accessorized, cheap magazines……..all there is to love in a straight blowback carbine. Unfortunately the Liberals demonized an inanimate object rather than the user, Typical socialist commie reaction.

I found the FX9 carbine excessively heavy & the extra long barrel not worth the tradeoff. And it’s expensive. The Ruger PC9 is a little lighter in cost & weight but suffers from being unbalanced & front heavy. Shooters have to battle the front sight being dragged down constantly. The Chiappa M1 9mm carbine is somewhat crude using an internal steel block to dampen recoil & the chamber is somewhat unforgiving on some types of bullet styles. It’s was cheaper but now eats over $600.00. The HiPoint carbine suffers from an unwieldy design utilizing a wonky excessively high front sight, but the biggest drawback is the proprietary 5 round magazine.

Well thanks for every ones input. Much appreciate it. I guess all I really need to decide now, is if the cash outlay for another PCC is worth the possible expanded Liberal ban list that may or may not be in the very near future especially now with a liberal /NDP coalition but at the same time there's no point living in fear.

I owned a Ruger PC Carbine when you could buy them for $749 before tax. Having fought with a crappy 10/22 back in the day, I was surprised to see that it looks like a really well-executed, nicely-made 10/22. (talking internals, bolt, etc.) I didn't find the gun front-heavy, and only sold it after blasting through a bunch of 9mm too quickly, and realized what these outings were costing. lol (=see username)

I've held a couple of FX-9s (in stores) and have felt very tempted, but those did feel front-heavy and quite honestly, not as comfortable as the Ruger. I think the bone-stock Rugers are actually pretty homely guns, but they feel good/shoulder nicely. Ergos are very decent in my opinion.

I'd rather see an FX-9 hanging on the wall, but I have a hunch I'd just enjoy using the Ruger more.

another one here saying add the JR to your test drive list

I have the base ruger and i love it for what it is.

The JR is way more fun!!

Hey there,

Was the PC Carbine you owned the one with the aluminum "floating" handguard with MLOK slots and the six-position adjustable stock? It is that one which a few of us find front heavy. The standard PC Carbine is much different and doesn't have the felt weight displacement. For $749 I suspect you got the standard PC Carbine.

Hello sir! Yes it was, and the only model available at the time. That newer version didn't exist but knowing me/my budget, I likely wouldn't have opted for it anyway. Would love to get back into PCCs, and these are the only 2 rifles I'd be interested in for the record. That we can have here, anyway.

Hey 667!

The Berretta Storm 9mm/40S&W carbine is not seen at matches as they became subject to the STUPID Liberal unconstitutional Order-in-Council May 2020 firearms ban.

There were PCC matches going on long before the latest OIC...
I should confess... I did use a Cx4 a couple of times for PCC matches... The first time it was a bad experience. The second time, I had decided to give it another chance and it was still disappointing.
The Cx4 is a clumsy, heavy over-sized pistol with a very "clunky" action and bad trigger.
IMHO the "best" 9mm PCC would be a purpose built, dedicated 9mm AR15...
Much like the one I've had to lock up for the last two years ;-(

I've seen many people cursing then size and appearance of the Crusader 9, but I have yet to read any actual reviews. Has anyone actually used one enough to provide feedback?

Picked up a new Fx-9 today...
Went through 100 rnds without any hiccups, but...
That trigger has got to go. It's craptastic.

Swapped in the JP "roller" trigger out of my OIC victim 9mm AR.

Aaaaaaaaahhhhh... sweet.

Also replaced the grip with a magpul... 'Prefer a beefier grip.

I have both. The ruger is ridiculously heavy for a PCC. The ruger action is clunky and the FX9 ergonomics and lightweight make it a
Million times better. The ruger isn’t any more accurate…

I picked up the PC9 for $699 only because it was cheaper and less likely to be targeted by the Liberal gun ban experts. The take down feature is nice too, have a Magpul Backpacker stock coming to make it more ergonomic.

The storm in my opinion isn’t even a runner up to the FX-9.

Reading the description for the FX 9 it seems the manufacturer recommends copper plated bullets only. So is anybody using powder coated Cast bullets in the FX 9? I mean technically a powder coated cast lead bullet is kind of like a plated bullet in a way.

Might be fun to have both as they can use the same magazines and ammo, it's easier to equip yourself and a buddy for a fun range day or to just keep it interesting and different for yourself.

I have an FX-9 and my father has the PC9 - we've determined that the FX-9 is definitely faster in target transitions and reloading, overall the accuracy is about the same, and you're going to have a pile of fun either way. I've enjoying putting some work into my FX-9 as well, but that's not for everybody. I've never been a "just keep it stock since that's how it's designed and that's the way it's meant to be" kind of shooter. I don't own a single firearm that I haven't at least changed the sights on. Having said that, this is kind of the Honda Civic of PCCs in that you can swap out just about everything until you have it perfect for you on the base chassis.

I've done the trigger (TriggerTech FX-9 adjustable trigger) added a TechWell magwell, changed the stock to a Magpul CTR, the grip to a Magpul MOE, added a QD point up front and a sling, the buffer is now an H3 and there's about $1.50 in quarters in the buffer tube to tighten it up a bit, some picatinny for a light when I want to chuck it on there, some grip pads on the MLOK, and both a Vortex Venom and some Magpul BUIS to complete the first iteration of my tinkering. I may change out the Vortex to something else later on, and same with the BUIS, but it works great how it is now so we'll see if I get bored and frisky later! I'm still playing with the buffer and spring system to tune it the way I like it the best, so that's been kind of a fun process too.

I've found SGM 10/33 magazines to work the best in it, OEM Glock, Magpul and a random (unsure of brand) magazine don't always engage the LRBHO. Haven't tried ETS mags yet, but will eventually as I've heard they're good too. It totally eats all the ammo I've fed it (no aluminum case) regardless of 115, 124, or 147 grain. I "broke it in" on 115 grain though with the stock buffer and spring just to follow the manufacturer's recommendation.

Can I assume the SGM mag will work in the Ruger PC9 as well? I was checking FOC to order a couple but they want my PAL info online to order them. Is this the norm to order a couple mags. Since when is a PAL required for mags? I don't recall having to use my PAL for mags in the past as far as I can recall.
