Impala Hunting: The Oft Under-appreciated Gem

How are they to eat?

Finally found the pic of the meal from my first,

That is my ideal Impala trophy picture! Congratulations and Waidmannsheil! I hope I get to do the same, maybe with my Ruger M77 RSM .375? YOU were quite influential in my choice of a rifle for hunting Africa when I go. Thanks for posting the pic.

I've had warthog that was, the most melt in your mouth, wonderful food I've eaten. Prepared by the old German wife of my PH in Namibia. Eland it good fare but I've had both good and tough of it as well. I've found none of the antelopes to have an offensive or bad flavor but preparation varies greatly and some can be pretty tough when just fried up and served.

Likewise for us. Warthog was the best meat we'd ever eaten; until we had a taste of your sheep that is.

Impala was excellent though . . .

I was making camp meat disappear so fast, they thought a few pounds of impala might slow me down

Impala are frequently seen in the open, but not always

Just finalized our second trip to Africa last night and this time impala is definitely on the list. To me they epitomize plains game in Africa. Two and a half months to go!

Those are some mighty impressive Impala Longwalker- hope you meet the likes of them again.

mossy, you must be on the edge of your seat by now, have a ball man!

Boomer, looks like a fantastic time, I remember reading about that trip of yours and the PH's double and all, makes me miss Africa. My brother chews through ungodly piles of meat as well, though that's a serious portion you have there.

sheephunter, good luck, and hope we get to see some of the trip in print or otherwise. :) Thanks for the responses folks.

Well I did it. Fulfilled a lifelong dream and hunted Africa. It was an amazing experience and I can only hope I find a way to make it back again someday. This was a short hunt as I am here primarily vacationing with my wife but in 3 days of hunting I was able to take a Gold Medal Blesbok, beautiful Kudu and my Impala which is just a good representative for the area but I actually had a hard time getting him and ultimately I was very proud of the stalk and effort I had to put in to connect on him. I even ended up with a bonus Blesbok when the landowner asked me to harvest one for meat ration for his workers. He even offered me the hide for a flat rug and the skull for a Euro mount so bonus. I'm enjoying the sun in Cape Town right now and doing this from my iPad so I hope the picture uploads. As this is an impala forum I'll wait and upload the other pics to the hunting forum later.

Cheers,

Well mossyhorns, you've gone and done it now!! There is no such thing as one trip to Africa, now there is only "when can I go back"...........and then "when can I go back, again"..........and then "when can I go back, again"......It is an illness for which death is the only cure...........like I said, you've gone and done it now !!!!

Nice impala..........where's the rest?

We want to see the rest of the photos NOW !!!

Sorry boys but I'm travelling Africa and internet access here is spotty at best. as requested here are my other pictures.

My first trophy of the hunt, my Blesbok which goes over 16 inches and is wide at the tips. My PH assures me he is a gold medal ram which really doesn't matter to me as I love him regardless

My second Blesbok shot for meat rations for the staff of the farm. This was a freebie as the land owner asked me to shoot him and he even offered me the skull, horns and hide for free. Bonus.

And finally the one trophy I actually didn't expect to harvest but the morning the PH picked me up my wife told me to shoot one if I saw a good one. That's all I needed to hear and a Kudu became a higher priority then Wilderbeest or Warthog and as good as my wife is with my hunting the trophy fees on this one bad boy alone meant my hunt went from 4to 5 animals to 3 (the second Blesbok was a nice bonus). All in all I only hunted three days and had a blast.

Sorry but the picture wouldn't post. See post #42 (thanks Ardent).

Sorry boys but I seem to be having problems with the kudu picture. I'll try in a couple days when I have a better connection
